Brass xpole nightmare
Posted by Chazyeliz on March 18, 2014 at 11:19 amHey guys well I have had this brass pole a while now and tried everything possible to get good grip but nothing works at all … It’s so frustrating 😞 is anyone else having or had this problem and if so how did you fix it ? X

Hi Chazyeliz, When did you purchase your Brass X-Pole? All of our brass X-Poles are high polish brass tubing, and super grippy. We haven’t had any complaints state-side, if anything some people find brass to be too grippy!
Make sure you clean your pole with alcohol, and use a brass cleaner like brasso as needed. We also suggest using a grip aid such as Dry Hands, Itac, or for a more solid grip.
Keep in mind that Brass is just solid brass tubing- If you are having trouble with grip it is most likely not the pole itself but your body chemistry- we all have different chemistry: Dry skin, sweaty, oily, combination, and all of that can make for grip issues at some point.
Hope this helps. -
sorry to hear that Chazy, I bought an xstage lite late last year. it is brass and it is crazy grippy. I tend to sweat a lot though. is the weather super cold where you are? cold pole and body can do that too. I’m in the U.S. I’m also in California, it is pretty warm here.

How long have you had the pole? Is it old enough that perhaps you have one of the brushed finish poles and not the high polish poles? (Or was the brushed finish only ever in use on the stainless poles? Apologies if I have the wrong info, xpole techs)

That sucks! I have a brass x-pole but it was bought RIGHT before the change to the high polished brass they now sell. I couldn’t ever really stick to it.I now have a TG-45 and stick really well to it and have noticed it warms up really easily. Good luck!

Yes! The previous first Brass poles were a brushed brass. There is a way to polish those poles to become High polish and we actually have a video if you want to check it out: http://youtu.be/swbfsLoWfJA
I’ve actually heard that some people really liked that brushed brass finish, and in personal experience it works well with Itac for grip.
Please contact X-Pole UK if you have any other questions about your brass finish- They have a great tech team as well. Thanks!! -
My best friend has a brass xpole and it has terrible grip! I’m constantly slipping off of it. She cleans it with alcohol and has had it for over a year but I’m not sure that she’s ever polished it. Could that be why it’s not gripping?

Clean it with acitone there is a post on here about cleaning brass poles and to get them from being so slippery

I feel your frustration as I have also had a bad experience with my brass pole…no matter what I do zero grip and have never had grip problems on previous poles. Mine is the high polished one although I’ve had issues from the beginning where the finish is more like the texture of paper (the closest thing I can think of). Brasso didn’t work for me but might help you “break it in” by cleaning it. I recently ordered a bunch of different types of grip aids to test out so we shall see…if all the grip aids still don’t work I guess you could consider the tacky gloves but I personally don’t want to have to go that route as it seems like it will restrict movement.

Acetone is actually really bad for your skin. You do not need to use acetone to clean your brass. Just rubbing alcohol. It is the nature of brass to oxidize over time and it is also a porous and therefore softer metal. Because of the oxidization or tarnishing process, you need to polish your brass with brasso as needed.
Finish is always a matter of personal preference. Some people love brass, and some hate it. This all has to do with body chemistry. Of course we have found that high polish brass has the best grip, while brushed/matt brass is not as grippy for most people. Its a good idea to figure out whether you have brushed or high polish brass. If it is brushed and you don’t love it, you might prefer high polish. If it is high polish, and you hate it- you might want to try another finish.
Thanks! -
Some people simply do not work well with brass. Sometimes that is due to dry skin. I had grip issues when I was first trying brass, and I was on a medication that made me not sweat. I would slide all over. Now that my body is a sweaty beast again, I grip like it’s fly paper. unfortunately, there is no one material that will work for everyone.

That’s me. Even really good brass is a nightmare for me, just because of my own personal sweat and grip issues. Don’t feel too discouraged. Almost everyone has one or two finishes that noticeably are worse or better grip wise, it’s totally normal although understandably totally frustrating.
