Bruising and iron
I’ve noticed a lot of posts about bruising so I just wanted to share something that really helped me.
Bruising easily is a classic sign of anemia… and about 70% of American women are anemic for several reasons (our food is not as iron rich as it used to be due to messed up modern farming practices, cast-iron cookware is no longer the standard, and on top of all that, we bleed every month.) Unless you eat a lot of red meat or take supplements, there is a really good chance you are iron deficient.
I used to really struggle with low energy, bruised insanely easily (I always had bruises and this was even before I started pole dancing!), and found that every time I brushed my hair a lot came out. My doctor diagnosed me as anemic. However, almost all iron supplements constipated me or gave me a really upset stomach, and I’m a vegetarian. I didn’t know what to do, until someone suggested Enzymatic Therapy Ultimate Iron to me. It literally changed my life when I started taking it. It did not affect my digestive system in the least bit, my hair is far fuller now (iron deficiency is by far the leading cause of hair thinning in pre-menopausal women), I no longer bruise easily and my energy level is WAY up. They aren’t the cheapest iron pills on the market but they’re worth it (you can find them at any Vitamin Shoppe or GNC.) I ran out of pills for awhile a few weeks ago. Suddenly I started bruising really bad after pole class, and I also found I was no longer able to climb even close to the way that I used to! I started taking the iron again and now I don’t bruise easily and I’m back to where I was before.
The bottle says to take 2 pills a day but I only take one. It is a totally different form of iron than the ones found in most supplements, it is way easier on your digestive system and also more usable to your body. About a half hour before I take my iron, I take an L-lysine supplement, which preps your digestive system to best absorb the iron and is also good for your immune and hormonal systems. You’ll be able to tell if your body is absorbing the iron well because your poo will get darker (disgusting, I know, but its kind of important so I had to share.) If you bruise easily its worth a shot.
