I love pole, I love sharing it with people, I love the artistry and the routines and the whole thing… oh, and I also need to get a second job because paying back loans is kililng me.

After much speculation and reading and researching here and on other forums, I don't think I'd be comfortable with being a topless dancer. I don't want to have to work the room or chat people up and hope they buy dances or that sort of thing. Totally supportive of the people who can do it, just don't think it's for me.

So… Is there any way to perform with your clothes on and make a little extra cash? Performance art or promos or something else I haven't thought of?

Gogo dancers make decent money and alot of gogo dancer venues now have poles in the gogo dancer boxes.

Do you go to a studio? you could talk to the owner about assisting at pole parties, working at the studio office pt or something like that.

I'd love to work in the office, but we're only open during class times and there's one person who covers all the hours. Pole parties are a good idea! I'm afraid she'll look at me like I'm crazy for thinking I'm good enough to help other people though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

If you do not have your own stage pole this will be difficult.  There is a bikini bar here in town but I really do not think the girls are making that much money and they are still doing lap dances and such.  If you have your own stage pole then you can start looking into burlesque and fetish events.  The first few may have to be done at no charge but once you get your name out there you will start getting calls.  I have even been contacted through this site by someone who was looking for silks performers for a grand opening of a club.

I have a pole, but not a stage pole… how do you vet events and make sure you're not putting yourself in danger? Also, what's typical to make doing that kind of work?

Here the events are few and far between but the fetish events tend to pay $50-100 for a few hours (usually one or two performances).  Quite honestly, fetish/alt/swinger events are probably some of the safest events you can perform at.  They tend to have super tight security and these are people who know and respect boundaries and the meaning of the word no.  I am not really sure how burlesque performers get paid.

Many of the performers that I know that are out a few weekends a month travel to many different locations.  They are more performance artists than anything else.  You just kind of have to find that niche in your city and start making connections.  Unfortunately though when someone comes into town and is looking for performers the first thing they are going to do is call local studios.

A lot of clubs or special events will hire pole dancers to perform. I suggest looking into this. Maybe linking up with someone in the nightlife industry such as a promoter or publicity firm that handles events like this. Get a professional reel or video together, headshots, resume… The more you present yourself as a professional performer the more you will be treated as such. I've performed in NYC and it is no easy task. It's a lot of self promotion, making connections…. But once you have a few connections and people become more familiar with you, the good news is, new referrals will come through! Good luck!
