  • Can anyone help me identify a pole?

Hi everyone. I posted a photo yesterday of the bottom of the pole I used at class, was wondering if anyone knows what kind it is? It seems like a 50mm, black base with a sort of gap between the bottom of the pole and the floor, static only, some kind of white ceiling mount. The teacher doesn’t know what kind it is because it’s not her studio, she rents a room in a dance academy so the poles were already there, they’re permanent. The photo is on my profile page, I’ll try and post it here too but I’m on my phone so I’m not sure if it will work. If anyone has any ideas I’d appreciate your input! I’m curious because I’ve never seen one like it before.

    Alistage (Polestar).

They are definitely not permanent with those bases! (The tops might be, but your description of “white” makes me think they are the pressure mount top, but you haven’t posted a pic of that to confirm)

Ah right sorry! Yeah that makes sense, my brain had a bit of a special moment there. What I mean is that they seem to be fixed to the ceiling with some kind of mount, not by pressure like an X-pole. I didn’t get a picture but I’ll see if I can get one next time.

I’m having a look at the website now and to be honest it looks a bit dodgy…I don’t like the lack of information given, and also the fact that they seem to specialise in lighting rigs etc rather than poles.

Alistage have been selling poles long before X-pole came along. They specialise in scaffolding, so can actually manufacture all sorts of fittings for different ceiling types, and know what they are talking about with regard to safety and ratings etc.
I’ve personally had these poles in my studio for 3 years.

Ah okay! I didn’t know that. I’ll see if I can get a photo of the top of the pole when I go back 🙂

    Could be a pleasure pole

actually I think the pleasure poles are white at the bottom too, and slightly bigger bases

Looks a bit like the old Party Poles (not the ones made in the USA-these were designed by a British man. Their bottoms could be loosened and the whole pole could swing up and be stored across the ceiling because they remained attached at the top. They were 50mm.

I got a picture of the top of the pole this week, here it is. The only other information that I have is that it’s in one piece top to bottom, no holes/joins like on an xpole.

Hey all! This one is definitely not an X-Pole. Thanks!

Yep that looks like the top of the Alistage poles. This is the removable version (load spreading). Is that a screw? It looks like it has possibly been screwed to the ceiling so the load spreader is permanently up there, and the poles just slot on and off.
