  • Cats and Poles what the connection?

Posted by PolePhoenix on November 21, 2009 at 2:06 am

I’ve noticed that most pole vids seem to have cats prowling through them.

I got my cats just before I discovered pole dancing and you tube and my passion for pole. I say this so you see there is no connection between pole and me deciding to become the owner of two beautiful kitty kats.

Now am I making a crude stereotype or is this the case? Do a lot of us own cats, or is it just a lot of people in general own cats?

I think a lot of people have cats for pets, but this is my thought on why you see them so frequently in poling videos.
I teach pole and yoga in my home where I have 3 cats. I have noticed a lot of things with this… The one cat who used to be scared of everyone unfamiliar will come shooting thru the curtains hanging in the doorway to wind around the pole and peoples feet. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif
I decided that the cats like the energy in the room when its being used as creative and fun space. Just like how dogs can sense when your upset, I’m sure that my cats are feeling the love and good energy with the yoga and pole going on in there. Thats my take on it.

Don’t know if it’s a stereotype or not, but i have 2 cats (i’ve always had cats, even before pole).. and they love playing with me while i pole! I think that maybe we see alot of cats in videos because cats are playful & curious, so those who have them are likely to include them in videos since they’re always around & about when we pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

I have cats too,and they all seem to hang around me when im practicing. Some tend to watch me,others are more active, chasing each other and the likes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif
Its funny how you see more cats in pole videos than dogs ( maybe dogs are camera shy? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif )

anyway, this has always been my favourite pole and cat vid,im sure you have seen this

Haha- I don’t know if its cats or anything- but I’m a dog person. One things for sure- I know my dog would show up in every video (if I had a camera) because he’s always with me when I pole- he sits on my chair and watches. I think the reason our pets are in our videos is because we’re all such great owners that our pets just love being with us- yep, that has to be it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’m owned by a one year old Siberian Forest Cat. <3 =^.^= he likes to jump at my feet when I’m poleing. I’m terrified of accedentally falling on him so I usually boot him out of the bedroom.

I have a cat also, and i don’t think it’s directly related to poles but… there are lots of vids with cats running around indeed!!!! I wonder (if they had thoughts, as i think they do) what do they think when they see us poling? Hahahaha!I guess it’s because they look to be around people, pets don’t enjoy lonelyness that much. Kisses!!!!

HaHa…I think the cats are trying to figure out how to climb the poles! since they like being up high…it’s the one thing we can do that they can’t! poor babies!!

HEE! I hadn’t seen that video before (just when you felt like you’ve seen them all?)

    SO CUTE.

My cats aren’t intrigued by the poling so much as the floorwork. I think they’re encouraged by my desires to be on the floor.. kind of like I’m slumming by rolling around on the floor and they want to jump down from their tasty heights to join me.

And speaking of cats and poles…I think Tigiee (Azriel)–just put up a video with her cats playing around the pole just a few hours ago! It’s an adorable video…her cats have really unusual coloration and get along really well.

I noticed the cat-pole thing very early on when I started watching pole videos. Symone Corby’s* cats were real glory hounds in her videos from Hong Kong (SYMONESAL). I remember she did an old timey burlesque number with a chair dance and a purple wig and the cats kept jumping up in her lap while she was recording the video. She ended up just making the cats part of the performance.

I think that Tiff is the only poler I can think of whose dogs regularly showed up in vids–but we don’t see them as often in her new studio room. I can remember that one of them used to sit on the bed throughout the entire video..sometimes watching…other times fast asleep.

Karol had a great dog video up a while back in her old place. Her husband’s dog PeeDee was freaked out by the X-stage on spinny in the kitchen. It was a hilarious video. And Karol is briefly seen rescuing PeeDee in the North Carolina flood footage on the 10 O’clock news that was broadcast last spring.

Haha yeah i did upload a cat video- although the pole isn’t included too much… but i’m planning to make another one soon of them trying to play with me & bothering me while i’m poling! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

No cats here, but my dogs are terrified of the pole (esp in spinny mode). When they see limbs flying through the air they start freaking out and cowering https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif OMG! I just found this thread and had to laugh because I am guilty of doing this very thing. I didn’t mean to film my kitten, but she was being so naughty and wouldn’t stop playing. I shoved her out of the room and she still came running back. It was something with my movement and seeing her reflection in the chrome. She still comes running when I start. But I guess I’m not the only one though. I’m going to have to find the other kitty pole videos that you all are talking about.

Oh, and perhaps it could be a pole dancer thing. I have found at least two people with user names that somehow reference cats.
