  • Charitable organizations that are pole studio friendly?

I love to hold fundraisers and philanthropic events at our studio and want to make it a more regular occurance, but I've run into a bit of a problem. We've found that many local organizations won't take our money because we are a pole studio. Often they ask us to donate anonymously, and we've even been asked to not tell people who we are donating to because they dont want their name attached to the name of a pole studio. I understand that their hands are a bit tied because they have conservative backers and this could cause a stir, possibly to the point that they lose some of their funding. However, Id really like to donate to an organization that is happy to take our money and is proud of the place that money came from.

Do any of you have a favorite "pole friendly" charitable organization that you like to donate to? Thank you for your help!

We’re not in the states – UK based -but frequently do charity fundraisers and have often been asked as a studio to provide performers for charity events. Most of the charities we have raised money for – and the total is in the tens of thousands over 5-6 years- tend to be those that we have contacts in, that way it’s not just a group of ‘pole dancers’ but rather ‘Mr Smiths wife’ who wants to donate money. Our part of the UK is small, only about 1.5 million, so local charities tend to struggle to get funds – that’s where a lot of our money goes as they are less likely to refuse. Hope this is of some help!

Tinu from Pole Spin was having this problem as well.  I dont know what happened or how it was resolved.

Ive run an event and been able to donate to two wonderful organziations.  I have not had a problem where they wanted to accept my donation anonymously.  They have both have been very supportive and see that pole dancers have a huge heart.

The two I have raised money for were both local chairites for me The Red Devils (Towson, MD) and PCOS Challenge (DC).  PCOS Challenge is based in my area but reaches to women everywhere.  Im apart of PCOS Challenge as well, which made it easy to slip in and promote and talk about pole and what its done to help handle my PCOS.

Tinu's issue was totally blown out of proportion.  She was trying to use the charity's name on the event listing and they do not do that PERIOD.  It does not matter if you are a pole studio or a church, they simply do not allow you to use their name.

Here in Cleveland we have raised money for rape crisis centers and I know that St Louis does this fairly regularly too.  Look into shelters, womens homes, food kitchens….things that are more local that may not get big government funding.  See if any of your students are involved with any organizations.

Thanks for the responses so far. The two organizations I referred to in my previous post were a local womens shelter and a local food bank for a homeless shelter, so at this point im asking for ideas on your favorite national or international organizations.
