If you know of any Chinese Pole classes being offered in any city or state, please post here.

If you particularly know of any classes being offered in Florida, please message me and/or reply to post. This is where I currently reside, and am very interested in learning, but do not know if there are any skilled folk in this who aren’t publicly advertising it, since I can’t find a school or private instructors. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif

Look for circus schools. I know that here outside of Cleveland we have a place called Jasmine Dragons that is teaching silks, juggling, pole and a bunch of other circus-y type things. I believe that there is a big circus arts school in NY also.

I’m actually going to a circus school, but they do not offer Chinese Pole. Same with all of the other circus schools in FL.

But I did notice there a quite a few circus schools in NY and one place that offers Chinese Pole. One place I wish I could move to if it weren’t so expensive.

    Sadness. Thanks anyways. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Cirque School in Hollywood occasionally brings out a fellow from San Diego named Steve Gale, who’s the originator of this ingenious contraption: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK5C_mlEXsk

I took a Chinese Pole workshop with him and Timber Brown at the beginning of the month and it was a blast – they’re very good instructors. Steve’s coming back to LA (I believe teaching workshops at Cirque School) on Sept. 18th and will be teaching workshops and privates if anyone’s interested in signing up. You can contact him directly through http://www.facebook.com/steve.gale

Circus Warehouse in NYC has 2 Chinese pole instructors and offers weekly classes — I spoke to them last time I was in town.  I wasn't able to fit a private into my schedule, but I'm looking forward to checking it out in the future.  http://circuswarehouse.com

Actually found a school that teaches Chinese pole in S. FL. I've been taking classes for a few months now. If you're in the area, check them out: http://www.floridacircusschool.com

What is the main difference between Chinese pole and regular pole?

The poles themselves are quite different – they are often covered in rubber, and so Chinese pole acrobats often wear clothing to stop the burn. Although it isn't always the case, there is usually a lot of jumping from one pole to another, flips and such. I have to say though as pole dancing progresses, we see a lot more of a similarity with some of the tricks done.

Chinese pole is very much considered and acrobatic style. One of the most obvious visual differences is how they climb the pole – they usually use their feet like a monkey, usually using Tabi boots (ninja toed looking boots) 🙂
