Chinese pole and rubber coating
Posted by Brynne on December 24, 2012 at 8:53 amDoes anyone have any idea where I might be able to find a Chinese pole to try out and practice on? I live in Virginia and have no idea how to look for something like this. I am particularly interested in how a rubber coating will feel. I’ve heard of “pole condoms” used for poling with sunblock during the summer- is that any different? Alternatively, where could I find one of those?

I've been curious about this too, also in VA. I've seen the Performance Poles Australia (on Facebook) that does the rubbery coating, looks like they have the "condom" style too, but I haven't looked deeply into their products because I didn't have the money to go for one yet.

Check to see if there are any circus schools in your area.

There aren’t any circus schools near here that I know of.

I know DC has more offerings than Central VA, but the drive is a killer. I can find silks and lyra within an hour or so drive. I think even VA Beach might have a good acro community… hrm…

There is a circus school in philly…not sure if they offer Chinese poles though. Im sure they could lead you in the right direction if they do not offer it 🙂

Theres also the FlowJo in Carrboro, NC, they have all sorts of circus arts coming in and out, and I think an actual circus focused facility opened nearby to it….. Still a hike…

D Luxx, thanks for sharing the FlowJo info, I live in NC and do aerial arts. Never heard of it before now 😀

No problem, I found out about those guys when they were mainly for hoop and music instruction. The other circus school I was thinking of is in Raleigh http://cirquedevol.com/

I would consider moving to NC just to be closer to so many awesome facilities, teachers, and gatherings (for hooping more than for pole) They've definitely got it goin' on down there.
