Chopper/ Inverted V
Posted by polefairy on September 26, 2010 at 9:47 pmRight guys,
So I’m putting myself out there now for a bit of embarrassment by showing you all this bad attempt, but I cannot seem to get this move properly at all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I think I need my body to be closer to the pole but I don’t know how to do it. It feels like I’m already close but then when I look at the pics, I’m not in the right position at all! It’s like this move just hasn’t clicked with me at all. I thought at first that maybe I wasn’t strong enough but I hit the gym for the last few months and while my other moves feel more secure and look better, this one has not changed at all! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
I know my body need to tip up and over more. But HOW??
Any tips?

Upon quick glance…………
Your not quite inverted enough…..The pelvis needs to get higher in the air…..This can be achieved by pushing your toes in the direction of the floor.
Your head needs to drop back….
You are close………
I had the same problem with it when I was learning it……….. -
Oh and no need to worry about embarrassment girl~~we all learn and grow together as a community.

When I do that move, I always think about reaching my feet towards my ears. That way your hips should lift up.
-
Try getting into this after you are in a full invert. This was how I learned (totally by accident)….I was just looking for a prettier way to slide down the pole when I was first learning.
-
my secret is to keep pulling and tuck =) when you invert most people relax their arms and just put their feet up on the pole~ pullllll and tuck, and like the other gals said point ur toes to the floor and push ur pelvis pretty much to ur face =D
another hit.. its NOT to get a running start. running start or like a lunge into it.. if you do it that way you will have WAAAAY too much momentum and you will pop yourself right back out of it~ that was my issue when i first started trying to do it =) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

sorry i cant help with this one..im in the same boat as you…
i have to do a spinning chopper for class and my routine is being filmed in 2 weeks time and no matter how hard i try i cant seem to get it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif …i think im scared of smacking myself into the pole when i spin and go upside down because every time i do an inverted v i smack my ribs into the pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
any help would be greatly appreciated cause i wont be able to move up in levels if i cant get this 1 move https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

spinning is ALOT diff than just doing it normally. because of the gravity and motion at the same time.. 2yrs and i still cant do it.. i dont think i have the upper body just yet to fight the push of the air on my legs~
and if your hitting ur ribs, you too need to work on more pulling, rather than just focus on the jump and kickingpull and tuck, drop ur head back

thanks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
yea its really hard…ive only been poling for 6 months and im in intermediate 2 class and we have to do a spinning chopper before we can progress…it annoys the hell out of me because i think a lot of it is my fear thats keeping me back from it…i have no issues doing dives (sorry i think you guys use a different name for it over there)…just where i invert, hook my ankles around the top of the pole and press my knees against it and then i can let go with my hands and just hang there) so im not afraid of going upside down – just spinning and then going upside down..
grr i’ll get it one day https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

dont be embarrassed i had problems with this move too! it helped me to think about leaning far back enough to where my butt was above my head, also try tipping your upper body far back enough where you can look at the wall behind you after you invert. good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

What help me with this move is when you invert think about looking far. Like if there a mirror behind when you standing, you should be able to see yourself when your in position. So be carefull not to look at the ceiling but even further it help me a lot.
Good luck you’ll get it girl https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Good luck And happy pole’n! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif -
before you begin to work on the Inverted V you should be able to invert without having to use your outside foot to "catch" on the pole to lift yourself up. You should be inverting consistently with the knees high above the hands. If you can’t then your not yet strong enough for the V invert. Try working on your Tuck invert First….from there you can work on opening up into the V. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Keep in mind that you should not be using momentum and your torso must be close to the pole. If your banging your ribs into the pole your invert is not yet strong enough. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
Here is the lesson for this move. http://ver3.studioveena.com/lessons/view/2304
