    Hi all,

So I have a floor split (but not an oversplit), and can get into chopsticks, but my chopsticks looks really sad.  I'm sure quite a bit of it has to do with the rear leg's hip flexor flexibility, but I can't help but wonder if part of it has to do with glute strength as well.  My question to you is: what excercises would you use to strengthen your glutes? I know that running would probably help, as would lifting weighs, but I was thinking about floor excercises beyond that.

Bulgarian split squats and plie squats are great for glutes and can be done with bodyweight. In either squat you want to be sure to engage the glutes so that your quads aren’t doing all the work. You could also give some leg lifts a go, perhaps on all fours and try straightening and lifting your leg as high as you can, then slowly and with control bring your straight leg back to the floor!

Kettlebell swings are best for butt. But I’d agree that if you’re trying to lift & lengthen, various leg lifts are good. And just a good habit to practice is to really use your glutes to drive your leg to the floor when you’re doing things like jade splits, outside leg hang (when the free leg is straight), etc. getting used to that feeling.
