Omg I wrote down everything I would like to show in my next routine and I think it would last 10 or more minutes at least… 😀
    So here’s a question:
what do you think makes the best impression in routines? Drops? Flexible Poses as splits etc? Interesting transitions? Fast spinning?
What is the most impressive thing/pose/drop you remember from the routine which you’ve recently seen? 🙂

I think drops make the strongest impression on non-polers, the biggest one (and it’s so simply) is just the bomb drop. People LOVE that one. I showed jenyne butterfly doing it for a class presentation and I kid you not the class AUDIBLY gasped. They think you’re gonna fall and then NO. YOURE JUST AWESOME.

Drops yesssssss! Jade drop is especially impressive.
Also no arm leg switches into flower spin (on spin) seem to get the ooh aah wows going.
And drama drama movement – musicality, pausing, tension building, changing tempo, little touches like a shoulder shrug and head toss finishing off a body roll – rather than just bashing through a series of technical tricks flawlessly and gymnastically.

Everyone has their preferences though, I am a sucker for the dancing but others are agog at power moves and high speed spinning..

Something that is NOT so impressive IMO is when someone rushes through pose after pose not holding or extending them enough. A very common mistake that makes everything just look stressed. When you hold and extend properly you look more “present” in what you’re doing I think.

What’s impressive can depend on your audience I think. Drops are cool especially for non-polers, while innovative transitions will wow polers but not the non-polers (because how are they supposed to know what’s unusual and what’s not?).

And last but not least, whatever you do, think about the lines, otherwise most will be ruined :(. Better to focus on easier things and do them well than complicated stuff that doesn’t look complete.

I agree with everything said so far. Personally I’m really into transitions and drops. I definitely appreciation super advanced moves but some of my favourite routines have only a few tricks and great transitions. Splits are always a you-can’t-lose-with-that move.

Also, I like watching performances on youtube and taking note of where the audience starts oo-ing and ah-ing. I look for a bunch of moves at my level that got cheers and incorporate those into my routine.

I just really like to see a story being told. I love to see someone say something with their dance. I like to see a definite character and engagement with the audience. I like to feel like I am seeing something personal.
