Hey everyone.  I'm new to the site….I train in San Antonio, TX.  I'm a level 6 where I'm at which I know can mean a lot of different things.  I have learned the basic invert, gemini, scorpio…just to give you an idea.  Well, the goal for myself was to submit my vid to the Miss Texas Pole Dance Competition that's going to be held locally in June.  I'm pretty strong and a fast learner.  I've been working on some of the moves I haven't even learned yet that are required in the first round.  The issue is this.  When it comes to choreographing a routine or being creative with my spins, transitions, and floor work, I SUCK!  I loooooove the song I picked but when I try to free style and "feel" it, I just do a lot of walking around the pole.

The song is Beautiful by 10 years…..can yall shoot out some ideas or tips to me?

For me it seems to help to break a song up into pieces.  Perhaps start with one part of the song where you think "this move/transition would fit wonderfully here," and then work from there.  Kind of like starting with the outline and then filling in the pieces.  You might be different, but I never did too much choreography all at once either; that way I could really focus on the section at hand.

I was surfing pole sites last night and saw poleskivies will help with a video upload for $19.  Not sure anyone has done this, but maybe she can help with the dancing part.

Thanks. I’m def gonna keep trying. I took a workshop on this with Kelley Yvonne where she taught a lot of what y’all are saying, it helped a lot but for some reason my mind doesn’t seem to work creatively like that. I’m stuck on a “walk 4 do a move, walk, move……” mindset.

Try to do it in your head….like listen to the song over and over and over while your doing some thing off the pole like walking or cleaning. (I use my ipod during work) try to picture some one dancing to the song, you’ll get it in pieces, you’ll fing that you can see what moves go where during certain parts, then its a process of filling in the blanks. I try to focus on the emotion, it takes quite a few time of listing to the song for me. Last one was 2 work days! Good luck!
