If you have constipation, Mirilax is a good laxative. It doesn't cause cramping. I asked my doctor if it is safe for extended use and he told me it is. I believe it works by pulling more water into your intestines to bulk up the waste, making it pass easily. It takes about a day to work. I had to use it frequently when I was on seizure medications, as they made me unbelievably plugged and miserable.

Thanks all for the information! I will “digest” it all and see what I decide to do. 🙂

Try Mag 07 and aloe juice. Aloe juice has really helped me. Just a shot glass full once or twice a day. I feel great and poop marshmellow peeps! 😉 I would definitly try all the natural stuff first..mirlax is a laxative, stay away from them..trust me that is a big source of my issues I have exprienced from abusing them in high school.

I knew a girl who would rave about these. She bought a series of 5(they do it at some medi-spas). She swore she lost 10lbs in 2wks and she claimed her skin cleared up from it to the point that she no longer wore foundation. She said her first she didn't loose any weight but they said it was normal for her first. Was a warm water colonic that she did. I think its all hype though.

hey lyme! well i can see this is going to be a controversial subject, and i don't want to argue with anyone… but i have had amazing experiences with colonics (and i used to work with a woman in san francisco who had a colon hydrotherapy practice, so i have given about 100 or so colonics to people). first of all, most doctors tend to be against anything that is natural, mostly because they have limited education, and treat everything with drugs. in my actual experience working with people, plus my own experience, colon hydrotherapy does not disrupt the natural intestinal flora. you can take some acidophilus afterward if you are worried about it. and from what i have actually seen come out of people (with my own two eyes!) the most dramatic results happen when the person is doing an herbal cleanse (taking colon cleansing herbs in combination with a cleansing diet). however, you don't have to do a big cleanse. just eat lots of raw fruits and veggies for a few days. you can also have plain potatos, and use apple cider vinegar and lemon juice for salad dressing. there are lots of good herbal cleanse programs available at health food stores. good luck! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

okay, i read the article by the mayo clinic guy. not a very good article at all. for one thing, colon hydrotherapy is extremely hydrating to the body – and that is a fact! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif also, if people were able to get rid of all of the toxins and waste that they dump into their bodies, we would not have all of these illnesses. america's health is on a fast decline. people are getting sicker and sicker, while big ag, big pharma, as well as the cancer industry, are making billions.

Hey Tarah, I take offense at your statement "first of all, most doctors tend to be against anything that is natural, mostly because they have limited education, and treat everything with drugs"! That is simply not true!!! If anything, I try to take my patients OFF medication whenever possible and I think most MDs of my generation try to at least. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gifI'm the first to admit that I don't know everything in the world, and I like going natural if possible and am in no way against natural or homeopathic remedies. I always endorse cranberry for UTI and rarely give out cough syrup (I tell my patients to make ginger tea with honey and turmeric, I swear it's better than Robitussin and only give Robi if they absolutely ask for it) and I go to acupuncture regularly. But just because things are natural does not mean they are always good. Think about it this way, marijuana is natural, and it makes people stupid and fat!!! Lol! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Anyway, it's that kind of attitude that causes a distrust between patient and doctor when it really should be a partnership. Most doctors are as bad as you think and do want to help their patients in earnest, regardless of "Big Pharma", and I wish you would not endorse that kind of thinking! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

sorry, gummypia! obviously you are one of the good doctors. i will try to delete that comment that i wrote.. i wish there were more like you out there.. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Tarah, no worries luv https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif No doubt that there are some doctors like you said… I've met a few and I've always felt like punching them. But I get your point that everyone should be discerning on who they trust https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

sorry, i couldn't delete it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif i agree that most doctors want to help their patients. it's just depressing how many sick people there are, and how the statistics show cancer and other diseases are on the rise.. that's why i always encourage people to do their own research and not just listen to the mainstream…

You could just do what you have to do to prepare for a colonoscopy, for which your bowels have to be completely empty. I expect it's on the net somewhere, but basically you have to follow a certain diet for a few days, then take this special stuff that makes you use the bathroom a lot. Not sure what it's called, but "gastrolyte" comes to mind. This is probably cheaper and safer than getting a colonic irrigation.

My docs don't give out prescriptions like crazy. My doc just took me off of medication that I have had to take for 5+ years as he knows it is never good to have to be on medication. Like gummypia, my docs always reccommend probiotics and cranberry pills. Oh, btw, MJ doesn't make people stupid and fat. It does make people a little goofy for about 2 hours, but that's it. No lingering effects. I know people who function very well with it. Unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions about it that still linger from the reefer madness days (but they are slowly being cleared up.) It actually helps with A LOT of illnesses. In fact, the cannibinoids in it can stop seizure activity! 🙂 I've seen lots of epileptics talk about how non of the pharma meds worked to stop their seizures, but MJ does the trick every time. There has also never been a single death from direct use of MJ.
I think diseases are on the rise, not from our bodies not cleansing itself, because I think it does that pretty well on it's own, but more from the availability of processed foods and chemicals everywhere.

Wow, didn't know this topic woujld get so heated! Just wondering if any of you had a clonic and your experience., thats all. Thanks to those who gave information on your thoughts of it being harmful. I am an RN and have worked in traditional medicine for 25 years. However, being diagnosed with Lyme and the little/no response I got from traditional medical professionals has lead me down a different path. I have finished up treatment with a MD who specialized in Pathophysiology. Long story, she turned away from traditional meds and now treats with the holistic approach. And THIS approch has help my Lyme more than anything else. She believes in Colonics and brought them to my attention. She doesn't do them in her office, but gave me a referal. I know there are good doctors out there, but many are not. My father who was very ill with Parkinsons and 78 years old was cleared for quadrupile bypass surgery!! I was his advocate and when my father couldn't get up off the table after the Cardiologist "evaluated" him to see if he was a candidate for open heart surgery, I about fell off my chair when he said he would do fine! Well they "squeezed" him in a few day later, billed insurance hundreds of thousands of dollars and my father never recovered. Quickly went down hill from that point until his death six months after the surgery that the Cardiologist assured us, he would do fine! Believe me, I questioned him, told my father not to go through with it, but he believed the "expert". My goodness, my dad could barely walk! But enough with that. There is a place for traditional medicine, but there is a place for holistic healthcare as well. I agree with everything Tarah has said. Yes, our bodies are made to cleanse themselves, but our bodies are made to eat diets that are natural, not processed with high fats, packed with antibiotics and ammonia gas. I believe our diets over the years have gotten worse, and our body needs a little help once in a while to clean out all this junk. Thanks all for your input on the subject….it is all about education, no matter what you decide. On MJ comment, I have done my share of that in my younger days. I believe there is a place for it. Give me a person who is high on pot or drunk from alcohol, I would ride with the person high on pot in a minute! Alchol (in MY opinion) is much more worse and harmful to people. Now I don't want to take this thread down another direction on the harmful/benificial effects of MJ, just giving my opinion. You may not agree, but that is your opinion and I respect that as well. OK, going to go pole now….. 🙂
