Combo modification
Posted by Honey Brown on January 22, 2014 at 4:32 amHelp! I need a replacement move for the Ballerina. My shoulders are not open enough (yet) to twist around and grab the pole. The combo is the Ballerina into the Teddy into a Layback into a Crescent (which I can’t do either b/c of back flexibility) into the Brass Monkey. I’ve been avoiding practicing because I can’t get into the Ballerina. Thanks!

Were you planning to do a Teddy using the same arm as the one that was supposed to grab the pole in the Ballerina?
I don’t know how much you’ve practised the Ballerina, but it really helps to bend down FAR and get very close to the legs and then twist the body.

I’ve been trying to do the Ballerina for a year. The transition move is to let your bottom hand from the pole and spin around with the upper arm to face the pole. Once facing the pole you then go into the Teddy.

I have a transition in my routine that is a fairly simple way to get in to the teddy. Try a piroutte in to it. Its a smooth transition when perfected. Some transitions just dont work well because of level of difficulty.

I don’t have a problem with the transition, it’s the Ballerina I’m having trouble with…

Got that but what I meant was, is it important to spin into it? If so try that pirouette….if not there are many simple ways to get into it.

Hi Lina. No how I get to the Teddy doesn’t matter. Regardless if I spin or pirouette to the Teddy, the issue with the combo is I can’t do the Ballerina…

maybe you could do a figurehead instead of the ballerina. this way you will already be in your side pole hold and easily transition into teddy. I’m not very advanced- that’s all my brain could come up with at the moment
