Sparrow – I love that quote!!!
Dance is my happy place – its been my happy place as long as I can remember. I love dancing out an emotion. Esp when im stressed – some of my best work has come from being stressed out and trying to get over it.
I also decided im going to 'treat' myself after a night of training with a freestyle so im not training and training – and then theres no fun and I get tired of my routine songs faster. Im not the best at freestyling so this also gives me a chance to hear a new song and work on a weakness of mine.

Mini,
You will do great. Just give yourself some down time and don't push too hard. I too am going out for Ms. xpose ( this is my fisrt year). I am competing in prlims at Annapolis in February. I cannot believe how close we are getting to d-day!!!!
Good luck and I know you'll shine

I didnt win :(. I was really bummed about it and down right hurt over it. I also had personal issues attached on why I didnt win which made me feel even worse. Ive decided I wont be competing in that competition again. I started to see my style and what they like to see dont really mesh. But I really did like what I brought to the comp. I liked my music and really got lost in it. I had alot of fun actually costuming this year than I have in years past, I actually put alot of work and effort in to making them. I usually dont put alot of work towards it b/c its only 5pts of your total score.
I had alot on my plate the past 6-8mos and so training was left to the gym and going over routines in my head over and over. Which made practicing really hard. My pole cave is now gone and im waiting on Platinum Stages to send me my pole and celing adapter so I can try to practice more at home. My husband and I came up with a game plan right now its to lose weight first then learn new pole stuff. He thinks that if I lose the weight first getting new moves wont be as hard than it is with all the extra weight. My thinking is that if I keep learning new stuff eventually my body will learn it and the weight will come off. Im gonna take his advice since he is the one with the excercise physiology (sp??) degree.
Ive decided that the next time I compete I want to work with someone on my choreography and seeing what it looks like. Honestly, I havent even seen my performances yet. I just put them on You Tube and let them be.

Mini- I am so sorry to hear that you didn't make it to finals. I was rooting for you. I too competed and ddn't win. I competed at Annapolis It was my first attempt though. I think working with someone on the choreography is a great idae. I think my flow was part of my problem, plus I need a few more tricks 🙁 When you are ready to go through your routines and compete again, I would ove to work with you and have you work with me. We'll get there eventually

don't feel bad mini! i didn't make it either. i don't think it was my tricks or flow though. i think it just wasn't what they were looking for. maybe it was a lack of stage presence or not enough interaction with the audience or something like that. i've decided, i don't want to try again. i would much rather work on my skills as a pole dancer and just get amazing at it before trying to compete in anything. i wouldn't think of it as failure though. it's just miss xpose. there are much more legit competitions out there.
about your husband's suggestion, i would say to work on your strength with conditioning (pole pull ups, abwork, sexy push ups, etc). that will help your pole skills and promote weight loss. muscle burns fat!

I guess I took it pretty hard this year since this was my 4th attempt. Besides myself there is one other girl who has competed every year and made it to the finals once. I guess after your 4th try you start to think there is something wrong with you and you wonder how many times its gonna take for you to just give up and realize that your not gonna win.
Besides Ive got bigger things coming my way the next few months. Some of them im not allowed to tell so you will have to just wait and see.

I wouldn't let not placing in competitions get you down. Like you, I've done 4 competitions as well and not won any of them but I am always happy I managed to get through a performance in front of a room of strangers and so should you 🙂 Also as you mentioned before – sometimes judges in the competitions have a favourite style and naturally will be drawn to those that dance to their liking. The current trend here is extreme gymnast style but I can't dance like that…. don't give up performing because I am sure you would have inspired a lady or 2 that night to give it a try! 🙂

I have never competed. I am in awe of those who have. Those who participate in competitions, whether they make it to finals or not, whether they win in a category or not, are strong and inspirational.
