Corsets, bustiers, waist cinchers…any suggestions?
Posted by crazykitten on February 9, 2011 at 11:38 amI'm going to be pole dancing in a burlesque-themed show, and need to find a good costume. I was thinking a corest, bustier, or waist cincher would be easy to take off mid-performance so that I could do tricks that need side grip.
Any suggestions for good corsets, etc.?

I should note that I don't want to buy anything super expensive…maybe $50 max.

I've seen bustiers in Kmart and Walmart and they are pretty common to find in stores like Deb and Charlotte Ruse. Anmd pretty much any lingerie store will ahve them, just not sure of pricing.

If you aren't wanting to spend a lot I would look at stripper stores!

I know they have them. I bought 3 or 4 from there and would where them everyday for years and they are still in good shape. They are more like "real" corsets without the price tag!

@ chemgoddess1: I didn't think of Walmart–thanks!
and @ Cheaannette: Good to know that they last a long time! I'm a bit worried about how a corset will work for pole dancing, since I'll need to bend my upper body a lot and don't want to worry about the boning. Are the ones you bought soft enough?

akkis…try to find the videos from the Midwest Pole Jam on YT. They may be associated with empowerment through exotic dance's account. There was one girl who performed in a corset. Also there is a Pantera video at pole candy (google it) where she starts off wearing a waist cincher.

Akkis2, I know corsets and things are really expensive, but I'll tell you one thing…don't expect a cheap one to be comfortable. I've tried a LOT of corsets, and anything below $100 is really…umm, unfortunate to wear. Granted, I have a little bit of an extreme figure when it comes to corsetry (my hips are very high, and my waist is pretty small, considering) so cheaper made corsets either barely hang on to me, or they dig in at the back like crazy…I end up with big red marks and feeling like I'm gonna pay for it for some time. I really wish I could afford one with proper steel bones, but right now it's not gonna happen.
That aside, however, you may want to check out your lingerie stores, because that's where most of mine have come from. They're pretty close when it comes to mimicking a good corset.
Also, if you're planning on removing it part way through, and you'd like it to be even a little bit sexy, I'd personally reccommend getting one with a zipper front, or getting a zipper put in. I did that, and because of the nature of the zipper (since the corset is "under pressure" you need something heavy duty) I matched it with the embroidery, so it didn't look so bad. Worked great, too! The hooks and eyes in most corsets are really frustrating and difficult to take off, so check in to see what you can deal with, and how you can make it work for you.

I also have big hips and a short waist and the ones I'm talking about are great! They have just enough stiffness to keep their shape but are comfy enough to pole dance in! I have a pic on my profile of me wearing one : )

Some of these might work for you…

As Runemist mentioned….True Corsets really should be fitted for each person. We are all built differently. However, they are expensive.
However, if you are just looking for one for the esthetic look of a waist cincher…..Check this tutorial out…..
I haven't made it(yet) but my friend has…..it looks awesome and can be adapted quite easily to bling it up quite nicely.
She is part of the SCA…and she has worn it all weekend with no complaints of discomfort.
However, it is for the look only….it isn't fully boned like a true waist cincher or edwardian cordet would be.
Hope that helps….

I have find something on ebay, they have a lot of choice of style and size. Haven't buy from them yet but should give it a try really soon… ship all around the word and you can have one for around 40$ with shipping include.

I have that corset! got it a few weeks ago from a place in china. for the price they are actually pretty well made the boning is nice a stiff and it has a zipper in the side. Just be aware the lace is a slightly different purple then the ribbons that makes up the stripes and bows.
Yes along with being a "shoe-ho" and a "wig-ho" I'm a corset ho.
