I noticed yesterday that I have a sharp-ish pain in my upper left sternum that hurts when I touch it and every time I twist my torso. I don’t remember doing anything to it in particular, so I’m assuming it’s from over training? After googling my symptoms I’m pretty sure it’s Costochondritis.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Luckily, I don’t think it’s severe because it doesn’t hurt when I breathe, so I’m hoping the pain will go away within a week…

If this is indeed what it is it will take more than a week for it to go away. This is a pretty common strain with people who lift weights but as with all strains a week of recovery is not long enough.

I have a good friend who has this condition and she doesnt lift weights at all.  and just like most conditions the drs will shove pills down your throat.  If you can I would just go get an awesome massage and make sure they focus on releasing adhesions within your intercostal muscles. it can be uncomfortable but it will help open your chest up more 🙂  try not to reagitate the area if you can though.

A friend went thru this, and it was resolved with PT — and time.

You should check with a medical professional, to determine the severity, before you do more physical activity.

Thanks for the responses everyone…I’m going to rest for the week, reassess the pain and go to a sports doctor if necessary. I hope it’s not serious thought 🙁
