Courage to post
Posted by PoleHappyVek on July 17, 2012 at 12:25 amWhen I log on to SV and watch all the beautiful videos it makes me want to upload my own. So I finally muster up the courage to take a video of myself for the July challenge…but then I watch it. I criticize, I knit pick and ultimately I don’t feel like it measures up. I notice my how i repeat a move, my transitions aren’t up to my standards, i keep looking down, there’s too much walking around and my free hand seems awkward! Why am i suddenly so harsh on myself? Does anyone else feel this way? Should I just suck it up and post it… I want to be smooth and graceful and I know I will get there but posting my imperfect dance makes me nervous. Any thoughts? :s

We are our own worse critics. And you should never compare what you are able to do and someone else. everyone has their own unique and beautiful dance style. But I appreciate where you are coming from….I felt the same. I would upload and then watch someone else's and immediately wish I hadnt. It's a great opportunity to see your growth and change with each video you post.
I finally realized I dance for ME and if it turns out beautiful and ppl enjoy it then all the better. And trust me…it takes one "Like" of your pic or video and a positive comment and it is the best feeling ever…and makes you want to post more. Good luck. Have the courage to post…this is THE most supportive community ever. You'll be glad you did.

You've already taken that first big step by actually videoing yourself!
You can now learn from yourself and teach yourself from your recordings. You've seen how your hand looks awkward and you look down too much, both easily correctable things. Get that camera on now and dance, concentrating on looking anywhere but at the floor and thinking about a graceful arm, one that is an extension of the move or walk or twirl that you're doing. After only one more recording you will already see improvement, even if it's only 5 seconds of looking ahead, smiling, with a beautiful arm! This is the place to post your worst videos when you're feeling rubbish about dancing, because where you see awkwardness and repetition, we will see fabulous flexibility, a transition we want to steal, an entry or exit that looked amazing, or even a pair of shoes, outfit or body that is HOT.
Take a deep breath and post your video now, and then get up and dance your socks off concentrating on one thing you want to change, watch and revise. Then post your improvement so we can all cheer and share in your glee 🙂
If you're still unsure, just edit out the bits you really don't like and post the good bits 😉
Do keep the whole video for just you though, it really is useful to look back on and to use to help you improve. My pc is full of vids that I look at and think OMG, how stupid do I look – generally when i'm trying really hard to be sexy or to do damn body rolls that are the bane of my life.
Hope this helps to inspire you a little bit. Make the post and feel the buzz 😀

I just posted my first pole video on here! It was by no means perfect and I nit picked it to death before I finally decided to put it up. Just go for it! Everyone on here is supportive and if you put it up and tell us what you don't like or need improvement on we can give you suggestions on what to do or things to try. It will end up being a really good progress tool for yourself to go back a month later and look at that video and see what you have improved on and what might still need work. I know when I was a beginner I really liked to see videos of girls that weren't 'perfect' it made me feel normal lol and inspired me to keep going.

Please post your video im sure its not bad we are all super critical of ourselves. All The gals here are very supportive & kind. And be kind to yourself smoothness, fluidity, Grace etc while poling comes w/time & practice:)

This is an encouraging place, and we all love to see how a poler grows. The others are right, we are our worst critics! Please don't feel you need to only post perfection https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
Take a look at some of my videos, you'll see quite a few of them are attempts at things, and they are not all perfect. In fact, there are very few of my videos I like!! lol We see every little flaw in ourselves, but others might just be inspired by you. Someone who is a beginner and posts a video will inspire other new dancers and so on.
Here's a funny vid of me hooping https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4f4e6991-dc00-42a7-b244-44c20ac37250It's all about sharing and growing here, not nit picking and mindless insults like youtube and facebook.
this is one where I'm just messing around with new things and trying handstands. https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/4e8076f8-4790-4cc1-9f59-63b80ac37250
Hope to see a video from you soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Please post…I just posted my first vid and believe me I completely judged it over and over. I also debated back and forth if I should post it. Finally I decided what the heck and it is now up:) So glad I did since everyone is so supportive and saw things I was not able to see because I was just looking for the negative. No one is perfect and if we were it would be a boring world. Also I think it will a great tool to look back and see just how far I've come…a week, a month,…even years from now:)
