  • Cross Ankle release on spin mode

Last day I received my new xpert pole Titanium gold 45mm and I love it !!! I’ve been to few classes at the studio but i cant always go so I’m planning to learn from home. Today for the first time I tried the Cross Ankle release and I couldnt believe that I was actually able to do it!! Horray for me! lol… ok my question.. when i’m on the spin mode..and knowing I’m still a beginner ( and yep hoping from move to move just for these days for fun, then I will start Veena’s program from A-Z), when I put the pole on spin mode and I do the cross ankle release , how can I get the momentum to spin?! So far, the only way is putting my hands on the ground and giving myself a push, this means I have to lower myself further down the ground, and it looks ugly too, and I dont want this. I want to be able to spin while I’m on the top of the pole.. it takes me a while to go on top and do the lock with my thighs and knees before I have the courage to let go.. so at the time being getting momentum from the floor may not be my safest option.. any suggestions plz?

You would have to start your climb while spinning fast. You might also have better luck eith spinning while doing the move if you did it from a shoulder mount (although this might be too advanced). Be very careful with this move though. Im definately not one to so much advocating saftey on the pole but this is the move that put a lovely english mother in the hospital paralyzed from the neck down.

Be aware that on spin mode you have to have a rock solid exit strategy for CAR: train yourself to crunch back up using abs, which is harder with the momentum of the pole or learn how to flag grip cartwheel off. It’s definitely not a beginner move on spin mode.

If you are a beginner and only taken a few classes I wouldn’t even attempt a layback, especially on a spin pole.

Agree with all above, cross ankle release is a move where your body is close to the pole, creating a faster spin, not to mention being upside down makes everything seem 100 times faster! You’ve gotta be prepared to exit safely should you find yourself going too fast. A gentle push from the floor can be intentional and attractive and a good place to test your limits.

KNZS, can you do 5-10 of these crunch- ups?

If not PLEASE do not try CAR on spin, especially not aerial!

Thank you everyone! I was shocked to read about the sad incident of the English mom! 🙁 I know that using the pole is such a dangerous action but I didn’t realize it for such a move.. I guess I just through myself into it… I can do crunches.. I tend to have some flexibility in general from childhood gymnastics and martial arts…. the thing is that I did the move and it felt good on a spin mode.. I was surprised myself.. Just at the time being I use my hands to give me a spin ..

Editing: I just “threw” myself into it .. Not “through”

I was reading about the tragical story of the English mom …as her husband says..you think this might happen to other people but not to you …I guess generally by signing up to pole dance/fitness…you are signing up to risk .. we hear stories from here and there about similar incidents in the clubs that lead to similar effects too.. Safe poling everyone!

yes, it doesnt mean you CANT do this. Because it sounds like you are definitely capable of doing a layback. But you probably SHOULDNT try it at this point. If you feel secure doing this move, that is great. maybe stick to doing it close to the floor for now? knowing how to control the spin on a spin pole is a whole other thing to learn and you are not doing yourself any favors by trying to figure that out by trying out your newly learned layback at the top of a spinning pole. think of it this way. you might be able to walk a tight rope and you might be able to do a back flip but you wouldnt get on a tight rope right away and do a back flip. you would test out other less technical moves to understand how the mechanics work. try spinning pole but try to maintain spin while you climb to the top and do a pole sit. learn how to control the spin first. work on the layback separately close to the ground for now. also, if you feel like, Hey! I got this! just try on maintaining a spin while you do a layback close to the ground. if you cant maintain the spin and layback while you are close to the ground then its definitely not gonna happen when you climb to the top of the pole. you will find there are some things you can do because of your athletic background and that’s great but keep in mind that just because you could do something doesnt mean you should. definitely take some baby steps and work on controlling the spin with simpler moves. sounds like you have some great advantage that you are able to do a layback so soon. that is very good. but like on the spiderman movie- with great power comes great responsibility. be responsible with your spidey powers. :)yes, that story is horrible about the mom. dont let that scare you though. let it inspire you to become very strong, secure, and smart about what moves you do and when.

I also agree with Pixie. I’ve seen pro-polers push from the floor in moves like layback and superman. it looks really nice and dramatic when it is done with intention. I actually love those two moves super close to the floor on spinning pole.

oooh! watch some oona kivela videos. she does alot of tricks close to the ground and I love the way she does it. she is a good example. she will even do a pole sit really close to the ground on spinning pole and makes it looks so good. its insane!

Btw i really appreciate your enthusiasm for pole KNZS. Always practice caution but beware of when people tell you you are not strong enough advanced enough flexible enough etc. to at least try something. (Not calling out anyone on this thread just saying 😊) Give everything a go and let your body tell you if its ready. Eventually you will avheive everything you set out to.

Try it, but stay low, I guess is the quick version. Low flow is all super trendy now anyway; the floor is the new ceiling in pole trick land.
