Posted by HilaryKate aka LolaSlaytor on July 14, 2011 at 4:03 pmI was wondering if anyone knew of a good tutorial for the cross foot release, or if maybe someone could post one here?
Thanks!!

Here is Charley's Remi Drop tutorial….which she has broken down into 2 parts…..the spinning descent and the cross foot release…
The CFR starts at 1:18 or so….
Might help…..

I've been trying this move lately and its killing the top of my foot. Is there less pressure if you fully lay back in the position rather than just sitting upright while trying to get the correct positioning.
I've watch Charley's videos but wondering if anyone has any additional tips/suggestions how to get past the pain.

I am not sure if this is helpful but I grip the pole with the side of my foot rather than the whole top of the foot – so its the outside of my foot pressing against the pole rather than the top of the foot – if you flex and hold with the top of the foot that's where a lot of the pain comes from. You don't really need to grip the pole with the top of the foot much, some but not much because you are putting a lot of tension on the hooked knee.

I was playing around with this move a few months back. It HURT! no matter how i tried it it felt like my leg was breaking.
My pole instructor actually told me that using the side of the foot (i was doing a climb) is the proper poc. The bones on top of the foot are fragile and can be injured easily. It also prevents a lot of brusing to the top of the foot if you use the tough outter side instead of the top. I may try the drop again, although my discomfort is in my lower leg, not the foot. Maybe this will help though.

Thank god for this post. I was dying to know how to get into this move after watching the second place winner of the midwest pole competition do it but I didn't even know what it was called. I'm gonna start working on it tomorrow 🙂

LOL! that was me at MWPC! lol!
I think it's best to learn this move with boots or shoes – I know boots won't make the drop easier infact you probably shouldn't wear boots for the drop but it's helpful to have something sticky covering your feet. I learned the CFR in boots first – I was pretty painful even them and while I can do the drop barefoot I prefer shoes because I know the shoes will catch.

this reminds me to revisit this move…charley almost had me in it a year ago and I chickened at the last minute just the cross foot not the drop. Charley's remi drop at the MWPC was awesome.

Another good tip for the pose (not the drop) is to put your lower hand down below you on the pole as you would in an advanced plank at first so that you can adjust your grip until it's more comfortable.

@Charley: yeah i realized it was you after seeing your recap of the competition. amazing performance by the way. i watched your performance like 10 times and added it to my favorites. i just love your style and flow. it's so effortless and beautiful. i think you should have won! also, your remi drop was awesome! it was such a nice surprise and really caught my attention. thank you so much for posting that tutorial for it.
I tried the cross-foot release in class yesterday and it hurt my feet so bad! i was trying to find different positions for the foot that's on the pole but couldn't find one that didn't hurt. i'll keep trying until i hit my sweet spot though and then i'll start working on the drop. it's such a cool move.

it might have been a bit easier if I had watched charley's video above a few more times….now I want to work on the spinning descent, not ready for that awesome remi drop she does.
