Dealing With A Titanium Pole In Winter
Posted by horsecrazy12987 on February 20, 2012 at 12:30 amOk, so while my TG is much, much grippier than the Lil Mynx SS I swapped out for it a while back, cold weather still makes it a biatch to try and dance on. I know no matter how grippy the pole, they're all still tempermental in certain weather conditions, so I'm wondering which environment the titanium actually does best in? Right now my apartment is dry and very cold, and the pole has the same 'sweating' issue that my SS had. I'm thinking my little space heater out in the living room is probably my best option, but it takes so long to heat the room and it's too expensive for me to just leave the heater running all day. Any suggestions? Maybe I should just give the pole a good rub down with some liquid chalk. Who needs skin anyway?

I don't think ANY pole does well in a dry, cold room.
Veena has suggested using a steamer on your pole to warm it up. You can pick up a cheap garment steamer for about $20.

Yep, my steamer is what I use now, also I have been doing a long warm up with hooping and lot's of floor work to make sure my skin is warm. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Veena, where did you buy your garment steamer? I'm not even sure where to look for one. I mean, I know I could find one online, but I'd rather just pick it up in town.

This is my first winter with my TG pole and it is SO much better then my chrome…I did a LOT of floor work last winter. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I turn up the heat just a notch and put a space heater in the room about 10mins before and then during the workout. I usually have to turn them down as I get too hot eventually. I start by getting really warm wearing layers so my skin gets ready. I have also been known to place a large pot of boiling water at the bottom of the pole while doing strength moves too. I haven't needed any grip aids since getting this pole–I love it! Good luck!

Hmm–the pot of boiling water at the base of the pole is an interesting idea. Oh, the stuff we come up with to beat the cold weather!
I've heard people mention before that taking a really hot shower prior to poling helps a lot, and you know, actually back when I still had my SS, I came out after a hot bath one night and managed to get a couple of combos and spins in before the slipping started, which never would have happened before because my pole room was absolutely freezing and the SS was a slip n' slide. I didn't really make the connection until I saw it mentioned here, so I'm going to have to give that a go next time I pole.

I've not had the chance to try a titanium pole yet, but I've found that rubbing some shaving gel/foam onto your legs and other gripping bits works nicely on brass, chrome and stainless steel. I also like to warm up wearing a sweater to help build up a bit more of a sweat. It works for the, like, 2 weeks per year that are actually cold and dry here. 🙂
