    I've recently cleared up my schedule so that I can get a lot more studio time, and I've decided to focus most of my efforts on developing flexibility and improving my dance style, as opposed to learning new tricks (I get 3 hours of flexibility, 4 dance lessons, which are of basic pole level or no pole at all, one hour of advanced pole and one hour of acrobatics without pole every week).

    The problem is that flexibility and dance technique take ages to improve, and when I see the wonderful things my friends that do more advanced pole achieve, I start to feel that although I spend so much time working in the studio and at home, I am stuck in a pole rot.

    How do you deal with it?

    I'm doing the same thing as you, and it is hard.  I think it helps to stay on this site, and post videos along the way to see your progress and get encouragement.  Good luck!

    You know what else I find hard?  The advanced moves I do know, I feel like I need to practice, practice, practice so I don't "lose" them – shoulder mount, advanced planked, CAR, etc.  Hard to make time for new stuff.

    I spend at least 4 songs each session doing nothing but freestyling, working to improve flow. Then I spend probably 10-15 minutes on "maintenance" work… tricks I've already got solid because like poleclimber said, if you don't do them semi-regularly you can lose them. I rotate these out (not consciously, really, but I don't do a knee hold every single time I dance.

    I spend about 30 minutes working on new stuff. Lately I've been working on one/two big tricks at a time, I feel like I personally progress faster that way. I might start laying the ground work and doing conditioning for one that's further down the pike, but I really put solid work in on just one or two.

    Flexibility is one of my hobgoblins. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif   I need to do far more flexibility training than I currently do.

    You're totally right, all these things take SO much time! Thankfully they're fun to do, eh?

    @poleclimber – This is so true! I can think of some moves that I probably can't do anymore because I've lost them!

    @polegirl They are fun 🙂
