I'm a semi-intermediate poler 🙂 . I used to be an exotic dancer years ago before children. I've performed in class and at the studio's performance night showcase. I've actually signed up to do another one at another studio because I LOVED the rush! As I was stalking pole dancers on Instagram, I came across a flyer for a local competition. It's open to all levels and they'll be using 13-foot 50mm X-Poles, static and spinning. I practice with a static 50 in class and a spinning 45 at home, so it's not a problem. My issue is that I'm not that confident in my abilities as far as competing against other dancers. I have this fear of embarrassing myself that I can't seem to shake, even though I've performed before. I'm not sure if it's because I know I'll be judged, or if it's just jitters. Also, I'm looking for song suggestions. I'm looking for something upbeat and funky along the lines of "Sexy B–ch" by David Guetta feat. Akon, "Only Girl in The World"-Rihanna, "Too Close" -Alex Clare, or something sensual and sexy like "All The Time"-Jeremih feat. Natashy Mosley, The Party & The Afterparty- The Weeknd, etc….

Are you talking about the competition on September 21st coming up?  If so, I think you should totally do it!!!! The girls that are participating in this competition are amazing and so encouraging and if anything, this will be a fun experience for you!  It's all about the experience and everything you learn and take away from it.  Just have fun and don't stress about it being a competition.  Go in it to enjoy your self.  I can't go because I have pole parties booked that night, otherwise I'd be there too.

Yes! That's the one! I've been practicing climbing with my toes pointed! I'm trying to get my head in the game, so to speak lol.

I'll find out when they're hosting another. I do believe these do these comps often.  I was asked to judge but had to decline.  My sister studio owner is sitting on the panel of judges for this one though so I'll find out when the next one is planned for.  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I say go for it next time! It’ll be a great learning experience. Just start working on a routine now & just spend the next few weeks (or months if the next comp isn’t for awhile) perfecting & practicing it until it becomes 2nd nature. You’ve got this! 🙂

There's another showcase coming up in October so I am going to perform then. That will give me more stage experience (it's been YEARS since I've performed in front of a crowd aside from the showcase last month) and get me used to performing in different venues. I will definitely work on something that I can always whip out for a performance though!

do the next one that comes around. maybe choose a song that expresses how scared you are to perform, it will be genuine and from the heart and the audience will feel it. make their jaws drop girl!!!

This competition is held annually. But don’t let that discourage you, there are plenty of other opportunities with showcases locally & within surrounding states that are always open to letting you participate. 🙂
