Difficulty with a move I don’t know the name of…ha ha
Posted by Masked Loopy II on January 24, 2011 at 7:18 pmSo, in my blog, I mentioned that I want to learn how to do a move that starts on the floor and I don't know what it's called. I've seen my instructor do it a couple times, but I have never seen it anywhere online. I'll try to describe it:
You start laying on the floor next to the pole and push your body up into a shoulder stand. Then you hook the knee of your inner leg on the pole and whip the outer leg around in a circle, which gives you the momentum to go from sort of being upside down to sitting straight up. When in the sitting position, you are a few inches off the floor and legs are straight out. I don't know how to describe the hand positioning, because that's what I get screwed up on. I think you are supposed to briefly push off the ground with the outer hand as you whip the outer leg and then both hands end up on the pole.
I know it may be really hard to know what the heck I'm talking about. However, if you know of a video that might have the move or can give me some tips, I'd be grateful.

Not sure what you are talking about but it sounds kinda cool and hope someone comes with explanation or even a video of it 🙂

I think I know what you're describing because Alethea showed us something exactly like it or very similar to it in her sexy flexy workshop…the way she instructed it if I remember correctly was to have your inside hand on the pole and then the outside hand comes onto the pole as your bring the outside leg around to snap yourself onto it, the inside hand stays on the pole the whole time, I haven't done this in a long time but I was going to do my first cast free pole practice today so I can try to do it and see if I remember how she showed us and make a video for you to see if it's the same thing you're describing?

Alethea's move might be what I'm talking about and I would love to see a demonstration! I think the part about the inside arm staying on the pole the whole time is correct.

if this is the one at GDS that I think your talking about ,,,,it's really important that when you go from the shoulder stand onto the pole to really hook that inside knee pit…then use your outside leg for momentum…inside arm grabs below the hooked knee and as you come around and pull yourself up with your abs grab with the outside hand above the momentum leg….hope that helps

@ Sam I am—It sounds like you're quite familiar with what I'm talking about. When you finish the move, does the inner hand move up higher on the pole after you grab the pole the outer hand?
-
I am now recalling that move from GDS also. I do believe the lower hand has to move up top in order for you to get back up to normal. But it's been a long time since I did that one.
I never got the hang of it, only managed it once or twice before I got mad at it and found other ways to get up LOL. So I can't help ya with a video, sorry!

Sorry, that was me posting above. Still logged in on my laptop from my last pole exercise visit to Samantha's house!

Yes once your finished pulling up with your abs (more ab control then momentum) the inside hand goes up top along with your outside hand…when Tara and I get together next week I will try to remember to do a video of it for you 🙂

So, I'm intrigued by the description of this move. What is the finished position? Are you sitting low on the pole, are you on the ground, are you on your feet…..??
-
I, like Polergirl, am quite intrigued! I would love to see a quick demonstration of this move, if you girls could give it a go. Also, are you staying vertical the whole time? This isn't like the…umm…"sideways" or "Dizzy lizzy" spin, right? That's the only one I know of where you use the pit of your knee that way.
How do you keep your hand on the pole when you're on the floor, and then spin up? Do you switch hands halfway through really quick? Do you end up basically in a pole sit? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif

hm, interesting– i do this move also but when i do it, i use my legs to generate the momentum by pushing my straight (bottom) leg into the pole, much the same way that you would to generate momentum to spin your chopper backwards when you are doing a monkey (gemini) climb with a figurehead transition between the gemini and the chopper. i'll try taking a vid tonight.

@polergirl–The finished position is sitting low to the ground, but you are completely off of the floor. You are are in a type of pole sit and squeezing your thighs together. The legs are just straight out in front of you, not crossed or anything.
@Runemist–I don't really consider this move to be sideways. It's just kind of like doing a fancy sit up. There is some switching of hand positions, which was confusing me. From what I gather from the other comments, inner hand starts low, under the bent knee. You use the outer hand for a split second to give you a little push off the floor and then grab high on the pole with the outer hand. Then once you've gripped up high with the outer hand, you finish by also moving the inner hand up high. Clear as mud, right? Thankfully, it sounds like there's now several offers for making a vid of this move or variation of the move. Maybe I can post a partial demonstration, even if I can't quite fully execute it yet.
To everybody–Do you call this move anything or is it just a nameless floor to pole transition?

i would like to see this move. it sounds really pretty!!! please let me know if you see a video with this move in it.
and may i ask what gds is?
-
GDS is just shorthand for the local pole studio (Goddess Dance Studio)

ok…I just posted a video of my sucky version of the move. Maybe that will give you all a mental picture and I can get help figuring this out.
