I'm going to keep this short 🙂  I had posted a few days earlier of my being bummed because my Crohns/UC was acting up and I was so weak I couldn't dance.  Fast forward, I was just discharged from hospital after an acute Crohn's attack that has left me weak and anemic.  I know it is going to be a long hard road back.  Any suggestions as to a good starting point.  I've been doing mild stretches, I have Veena's lessons…open to anything.  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I feel tremendous muscle wasting and am just devastated that I can't resume right where I left off.  And I know that is unreasonable …anyway, just any ideas of a good place to rebuild my strength?  No real limits, per se, from my Gastroenterologist..I am still on Predisone for a while which of course has me retaining water like a pregnant woman–boo.

    Thanks, ladies, for listening.

I watched a couple of your videos and you are really good. I don't think at your level you will have lost much. Maybe go back to Veena's beginner lessons and just start working through to see where you strength level really is right now. Be careful though because the prednisone is likely to make you feel better than you really are. As I said in your previous post my fiance has crohns and my mom has UC I have been through this with them a lot. He rides BMX and after a couple of weeks can hit all his tricks. Take it easy, build back up, and I will be thinkin of you.

If you don't mind I was wondering what kind of treatment you are on? When I met my fiance he had stopped treatment due to his insurance dropping him. He had 18 inches of his small intestines removed… but has been asymptomatic since.  3 years :).

Thanks hunny for the response 🙂
I was trialed in Remicade IV years ago but due to financial reasons I have been maintained on Asacol 800mg three times daily as maintenance. With flare-ups I add in Salofalk Enemas 2G nightly.
I have been lucky and this is only my third hospitalization since diagnosis in 1997.
This I my first time on prednisone and the water retention is killing me!
Anyway, thanks for the support. Living with someone that has it you know the horribleness if it 🙁
Definately not the worst illness but it sucks.
Thanks sweetheart…I’ll work slow an surely.

    Hi Jenn PoleLush,

I am very sorry to hear you had such an extreme flare. Always feels like a set back but try not to lose sight of how much you have accomplished and how hard your body is fighting. It is very important for you to listen to your body as you recover.

For short term use, prednisone side effects do go away when you get off of it. I know how hard that drug is to tolerate… unfortunately I am very very familiar with it. You can talk to your doctors or pharmacists about the drug side effects and if there are ways you can minimize them. Sometimes it is just a trade off for the benefit of the drug. Boo!

With exercise do what you like to do and maybe do a bit less and rest a bit more right now. With time you will build back up to where you were. I hope you are feeling much better.

Let us know how things go!

    Sending hugs your way.

OMG, I have NO idea what you're going through, but hang in there! You are such a tremendous poler, you'll be back to where you were in no time. You may FEEL weak now, but it takes quite awhile for muscles to actually lose strength and atrophy. Bob Cooley's resistance stretching might help because it's got a strengthening component and flexibility is always desirable! Plus it feels really good! Take it easy on yourself, sweetie! *hugs*

    Jen,

First of all~love u girl!!! so sorry to hear you have been so sick!!! The only info I can offer is that i took 6 weeks off from poling between Dec and Jan.  Now i am NOWHERE NEAR your skill level, but i can say that i was able to return to my previous skill level and strength much faster than anticipated…couple weeks at most?? It def helped that i had a pole at home and while i did not use it during those 6 weeks (crazy drama at the studio i belonged to was making me consider quitting pole altogether) when i did decide to continue on i did SOMETHING every day…even if it was just 15 min….and everything just came back like it had never left.  I know your medications complicate the situation and i can't be much help or even give good advice but i wish u the best and will pray for a quick recovery for you!!!!!!!!

Bryce also did the remmicaid back in the day until his insurance dropped him. After his surgery he was on Pentasa (Asacol) for a year. He also takes 6mp an immunosuppresant. They slowly weaned him off of the Pentasa and he has remained controlled. I def understand how big of an impact it has on daily life and will be thinking of you. One day they will figure out how to beat this!
