  • Do Shoes and Carpet Mix??

So I have just been messing around on the pole since I got it and have my set backs due to illnesses, but I decided it was time to get serious now that I am feeling better. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I practiced for a while tonight in just my bare feet, but then decided to put some "Pretty Woman Hooker Shoes" as my husband calls them (because my one of my favorite movies is Pretty Woman). It might just be me and my lack of experience, but it didn't seem like the shoes wanted to work together with the capet for pivots, spins, etc. Am I the only one with this problem? Does anyone have any advice on how to make it so there is less friction between the shoes and the carpet so povts and such are easier? Please and Thank you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

i haven't tried this as my heels have a smooth base and are fine on carpet but I've heard some people put sticky tape on the bottom!

My rubber soled ones are a nightmare, they stick to carpet and the spike heels getstuck in the pile. Never thought of sticky tape.

It's kind of the same thing, but I haven't tried this with heels.

When I was taking country/western dance lessons, they recommended wearing boots with leather soles so your feet could slide properly. My boots have rubber soles to help with grip while working in them. The last thing I want is to be sliding around outside. But, their recommendation was to put masking tape on the bottom to make them slick. It works. Masking tape (and painter's tape – though I haven't tried it) is not too slick, not too sticky, and it peels off without residue.

If you can find shoes with a leather bottom, or plastic smooth bottom these will work.  Ballet flats too.  But carpet and Pole and the wrong shoes can have your ankle twisting before your foot turns and after quite a bit of that, injury.

The bottom of the shoe should be smooth, Ellie makes some of these shoes with the slightly thicker heel,

You can try the tape, but you have to also consider how "cushiney" your carpet is (if that is a word).  My carpet was so sqwishey even with tape, I sank down into it and had NO support.  Thats when I decided to put down wood!

I ordered a pair of shoes for a costume once and when they came they had rubber soles.  I took them into a shoe repair shop and the guy put leather dance soles on them for about $25.  They worked great.  (Well, the shoes worked great, I was a little unsteady!"
