Do you have friends who have the wrong impression about pole?
Posted by MariYabe on June 6, 2012 at 2:13 amI have a girl friend who has the wrong idea about pole dance/fitness and does her best to announce to the world or our mutual friends about the "STRIPPER" pole in our house. So after a night out with friends, dinner, drinks and lots of remarks about the "STRIPPER" pole in our house, I decided… enough of this sh*t. We headed back to our cars and I quickly took action. I found a steet sign pole and held a twisted grip pose for a good 7-8 seconds with leg variations, a chinese flag and a semi flying K. Of course all they guys freaked and eagerly took turns giving it their all with a lots of head scratching. We all laughed watching each other, they loved it and I think gained some respect. Anyway the only one who didn't want to try is my girl friend. She was too embarrassed. Big surprise. At least she won't be making fun of me anymore.

Ahahahaha awesome XD They'll probably all be hassling you to teach them moves now! I thought in California you had square sign poles with little holes in them?? I'm very much against anti-pole dancing street signs 😛

YES! I have/had one too. I say "had" because we are no longer friends. She kept putting me down because of it and I decided I don't need her in my life anymore. She kept mentioning that I pole to other coworkers in my former work place in such a derogatory tone. I got tired of it one day and said YES I POLE AND I LOVE IT! Then whipped out my phone and showed our other coworkers a super simple vid of me doing a reverse grab spin or a gemini or something, and it blew everyone's mind haha! Anyway, the entire office (except her) now thinks it's really cool and they kind of tune her out whenever she starts rolling her eyes at pole.
Oh and I went to an Opus Dei school growing up. Some former high school classmates saw a vid of me on FB doing pole, so they wrote me and told me that they still love me no matter what and were praying for my wayward soul to come back to God. Haha!!! I'm still friends with those poor sweet girls though, I'm trying to "educate" them and at least I think they are trying to open their minds a bit.
Anyway, good for you for showing your friend who's boss! I would have loved to seen her face while you rocked it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

My friends are in love with my “stripper” pole. As long as they ain’t hatin (lol, so not how I talk!) Whatever! I know what it is to me… And sometimes, every now and then… it is a stripper pole 😉

Not a friend but a mother in law! Lol. She acted like she was cool with it when she saw it in my room for the first time but other family members have told me that she brings it up in conversation a lot, trying to get a negative comment out of others. She tried this weekend at her son’s graduation party. “Are you still doing the stripper exercise” she says? Of course I said yes. “But I dont strip mom, it’s fitness pole!” Her mother in law chimes in and says…”if it makes her happy and it works, who are you to put a label on it? Personally I think its hot!” Lol. I love grandmas who speak their mind!

sweet d this is so cute , grandmas are cool
i miss mine, im sure if she was still alive she would think pole is cool too 🙁

Yes I have one "aquaintance" like this. I just igore her. I plan on having her over soon to show her what i can do and let her give it a go, so she can see how hard it really is! My family is hit or miss about the subject–some of them know some don't, some know but act snooty about it and act appalled. My mom is cool about it, she kinda wants me to teach her a few things 🙂 My dad doesn't care hes like whatever makes you happy! My husbands side knows they dont care…my husband and I are the "different, freaky" ones in the family, so nothing suprises them with us anymore lol.

Lol at “freaky ones”. My husband and I are the same when it comes to his family. You would think they wouldn’t be surprised at anything anymore.

My family is extremely supportive and they all understand pole… but my mom's best friend's wife has a major problem with it, and has given him all sorts of grief for hanging out with my mom because she has a 'stripper daughter'. I don't have any contact with this woman at all, but I wish my mom didn't have to deal with her ignorance. 🙁

Whenever someone starts to talk to me about pole and stripping, I just whip out my teacher's vid from the european championship:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzMiKEzzeGw
After they finish picking their jaw off the floor, they usually change their mind.
If they insist, I show them some malakhamb and chinese pole. If they say they can't break the connection between pole and stripping in their head, I show then some rhythmic gymnasts and ask them what's the difference.
Most people get it at this point.

Yes they just don't get it at all but only polers do! I have thought about going to my neighbors and inviting them to a pole party to hopefully intrique them enough to start poling but this is a mormon community so I don't know how well that would go.

Wow, beautiful performance LillyBilly. That's your teacher? How lucky you are, she's amazing.

@MariTabe 🙂 Thanks! I think she's the best pole dancer in Israel right now, so I figured – best to learn from the best, right?

She was amazing! We share the same name and hopefully one day we can share equally awe inspiring mad skills!
