I know Veena recommends resting a day or two between practices but last night my husband asked if I was going to practice and I said no I was taking a rest day he then said something that actually made me go wait he’s got a good point…he said:"Exotic dancers and pole dance instructors dance on the pole when they work 3+days a consequetive days in a row and don’t rest every other day or every two days, so I think you could practice every day if you really wanted to"

That just got my mind going. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I know there are definately girls here who practice on their pole every day. Granted they may not do strenous tricks every day, so my question is for the ladies who do work out on their poles every day, does your body get used to using its muscles everyday or do you do find that you do perform better when you do have at least 1-2 days during the week when you don’t pole and your muscles have time to rest a bit? I actually notice that I feel more sore when I take 1-2 days rest in between practices than if I just work out a few days straight. But I’m curious what others have experienced.

Some weeks, I want to work out daily on the pole and some weeks due to crazy work scheduling I can’t, so it would probably be a mixture of the two for me but I just wonder what you ladies have found feels better/works for you.

if instructing or exotic dancing was my only source of income, i would be less diligent about scheduling in the rest that i know my body needs. i think that exotic dancers work as much as possible because… if htey’re not working they aren’t making money.

i’m a pole dance instructor, and i schedule my classes so that i have rest days in between teaching because i’m planning to be able to do this for a long time, and i want to make sure my body is in good shape. i literally only know one teacher who doesn’t schedule rest days in, and that’s marlo, and she’s a completely amazing beast and freak of nature who really can’t be used as an example of anything. she’s been dancing/pilates/contorting/personal training her whole life.

don’t mean to be condescending at all but i just want to make sure you understand the reasons why your body requires rest days in the first place…?

I’ve been wondering the same thing, as when I have some time off work I like to pole as much as possible, but realistically, if I’ve had a decent pole workout, I’m too stiff and my muscles just don’t seem to work as well the day after, like today, I would LOVE to pole. Also when I began pole dancing, I did it on consecutive days and ended up pulling part of my triceps I think (was probably down to not being properly warmed up as well) but it scared me, so I try to avoid it now!
As far as the exotic dancing goes, if your referring to dancers in club who don’t do acrobatic stuff, a lot of what they do is probably more cardio than full-on strength moves, and its fine to do cardio every day, so if you want to just dance without straining your muscles I’d say it’s fine to do, but I know I cant help inverting when I get into it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

The rest is one of the best ways to prevent over use injury. Some exotic dancers might do a trick here and there but mostly its about the show…they are not trying to learn something new or exercise. The body will adjust to the demands you place on it eventually (for some sooner than others). This is why professionals can exercise every day. This is also why its important to change your workout every so often, to keep the body and brain guessing so it will continue to grow. BUT for your beginning dancer, or for any new form of exercise for that matter, rest is ALWAYS very important so the muscle can repair. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rendeer.gif

Also, i do want to note here. You don’t have to completely be off your pole everyday. Just if you work one muscle group say doing tricks, don’t do it the next day..work on spins, or floor work ect.

Yeah, for "exotic dancers" the goal is to do as little work as possible to make money! Most girls do floorwork and dancing on their feet with a few pole tricks thrown in. You get sweaty but it’s all cardio. However, it’s worth noting that most dancers don’t work five days a week https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

However, I’m bad at resting too, so if I do a long practice one day or learn new tricks, I’ll try and alternate the types of moves I work on the next day if I just can’t stay off the pole. Like if I do a billion shoulder mounts on Monday, on Tuesday I focus on my leg holds. If I just do continuous freestyle dancing and don’t feel sore the next day, I have no problem practicing multiple days in a row.

Teaching pole classes on consecutive days doesn’t make me sore because it’s only a few demonstrations of moves that are now easy for me… But believe me when I first learned them, I had to take breaks!
