  • Does Flexibitily help with pole?

    Hi everyone!

I am a reasonbly new beginner to pole and was wondering if flexibitily helps with pole?

A few of the moves I have learnt I feel you need to be quite flexibile to do them, and was wondering if flexiness is an importnat part of pole?

What would be everyones suggestions on the type of training to help increase flexibilty and bendiness, as well as my usual strength training with weights 2-3 times a week and a few cardio sessions.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Cheers team!!!

Veenas flexibility lessons are what you need, I had no flexibility whatsoever when I started, you do need to add this to your workout routine, and yes it will help you. 🙂

flexibility definitely helps with pole! Veena's lessons are a great place to start. i also like Alethea's stretching DVDs, Stretching for Pole and Pure Splits.

Everyone pretty much answered it lol. But yes =) its VERY important. It is not safe to try some moves without having a certain amount of flexibility. When you add flexibility to your routine, it will help prevent injury =)

If youve never done yoga before any yoga for beginners dvds will be great for you. I forgot the woman i started with. But i moved on to gary kraftsow after wards. ( not sure what other dvds he has but the oens i had were more for a therputic cause not purposley becomming flexi) Then kind of took what i liked out of those random dvds and made me own routine. and over the years i keep chaning it. I have alethea austins stretching dvds as well. Which she really does have alot of pointers in stretching. But so do all of the dvds i have gotten so i dont think you can go wrong. sorry im not much help! when u search , im sure someone will catch your eye. you can even start on youtube if you dont want to spend money. maybe go on google images for yoga poses. pick which ones u like find out the names of them and if you want to see how its done youtube each one and over time you will remember them on your own.!

The best flexibility training is just consistent stretching.  If you do commit to stretching several days a week you will not see progress.  It is not something that coems over night and even in some cases is not even seen in months.

If you're looking to get the most for your money you might wanna go for the lessons here. You'll have access to far more content for the same price or less than any dvd you can buy. All lessons are very in depth to insure the you learn how to stretch properly.

Consistency is the key as Chem mentioned. There isn't a quick fix for flexibility, it comes with time, you'll get there!

That is exactly what I mean.  There have been all sorts of threads here regarding flexibility, getting your splits, getting a back bend but the only ones who succeed are the ones who are diligent about doing it.  And no apparatus is going to get you there faster if you do not use it.

As a side, many have seen gains using resistance stretching.  I know that Ottersocks (I think ) was offering skype lessons at one point.  And as Veena said, she has great lessons here (biggest bang for your buck).

just wanted to reiterate what everyone has said, and stretch every day! At first you may not want to do certain stretches on a daily basis but Veena gives a great explanation in her videos 🙂

For me, I've found having my partner gently push me deeper into stretches has helped a lot. Make sure to have them push as you exhale, and ease up a bit as you inhale.
