So after I bought my 45mm pole and fell in love with it, I stopped going to classes and the other day, I finally went back on a 50 mm pole and it felt so weird. I was doing tricks and thinking to myself, the 45 is so much better. I can't do any tricks that involve suspending my body off the pole upside down in the air with my hands on a 50. Maybe its because I have weak grip to begin with but now I'm finding it hard to go back to a 50 and if i'm doing my studio's competition in august, I'm going to need to be able to do tricks on a 50. And a week or so ago, I went to a park and was playing on the super skinny poles holding up the monkey bars and I legitly held an aysha for a good amount of time which I can barely do on my 45 sometimes.

I struggle tremendously on a 50. My hands are just too small and sweaty to make it work. I can do a ton of things on a 38 that I cannot do on a 45, like the superman.

I am not sure the size of our poles in class but there is one everyone calls the skinny pole and I love it. My pole at home feels huge as well my hands do not go all the way around the larger poles. There are a few ladies in my class including myself that would rather have the skinny pole but I try not to use the other poles too. I can grip the larger pole but it is a lot harder and once I start to get tired forget it.

I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t have this problem. A lot of polers feel a huge difference between 45 and 50. I work with a fireman’s pole (I’m going to estimate about 60, it’s like wrapping my legs around a tree) and have worked with very thin poles (40). I onlyhave an issue with the thinnest toothpick poles. I guess just getting used to them/not over thinking them is what you can do. You know, make your weaknesses your strengths sort of thing.

Same with me, if i'm tired, my hands do not wanna grip that pole. The skinny poles at the park were my favs because I had the strongest grip with them. I dont feel safe doing stuff like the extended butterfly on a 50 cuz my hands won't stay closed.

The poles are 45 @ the studio I go to & I have a 50 @ home. I too have a really hard time nailing moves on my 50, I always have. But I got the 50 originally because I felt it best to learn on the biggest pole available as most venues seem to have 50s. It is a struggle & I am dying to buy a TG 45 but trying to fight the urge

I have a 45 a home and the studios I've gone to have had 50mm. I do better when I pole sit on the 50 but gripping the 45 is a clear winner with me. @Cali- I have a TG 45 if you'd like to trade, I kinda would prefer a 50 since it's easier for me to grip with my thighs. We can work out the details later if you do decide that's something you would want to do.

Honeslty, if one isn't planning on competing and 50s are not the only pole one has access to, then I see no sense in stressing about not being able to work with a 50.

I may plan to compete later on in life but for now I don't have the time, other than for the competitions my studio does which are low key and everyone wins something
