I have been pole dancing for about a year. I have been managing my finances and have forced myself not to buy a pole. With graduation looming and looking for a job, I know I will not be able to continue pole dancing for a while. I had told my family that for my birthday  (at the end of the month) and christmas that instead of a present I desired cash, so I could finally get a pole (x pole brass 45 mm). Having a pole would allow me to continue dancing during this stressful time. My family is well aware that I pole dance and I sent the page for the x pole so I could explain exactly what the cash was for. The responses from my family and boyfriend were very unsupportive. They can't get over their ideas of what pole dancing is to realize sometimes pole dancing is one of the only joys I get during the week!

If you can not get a pole, can you get stretching DVDs and work on that while you save? I am sorry they do not get it and do not support it. Keep saving though on your own. 20 here. 20 there. Eventually you will get one. Watch on here for good deals too! People sell them all the time at half the cost.

sorry to hear that your family and boyfriend is not being supportive! It sucks when people you're closest to disapprove of something that is actually beneficial to your life. Hopefully one day they will come round and support you, but that is another battle for the future.

In the meantime, stay positive!! Like luvlee said, maybe focus on stretching/floorwork/strength in the meantime? All of those are important for pole as you know and when you do finally get back on the pole you will not be starting from square 1. Be positive that you will be able to find a job and be able to save up for a pole. Use this situation to motivate you to look for jobs everyday and save. You can also get a cheaper 2nd hand pole too, people are always selling here on veena  or in local studios, so it may not be as expensive as you think 🙂

*hugs* I hope they come around eventually. Maybe they’ll surprise you with cash anyway! It’ll work out in the end. You’ll get a pole eventually because you are determined. 🙂

I have been able to video each of my routines that I learned for each level of the pole studio. I have shown them to my family members. But thery are convinced it is some kind of a fetish thing! My boyfriend is limitedly supportive but I guess he feels ackward about it. He is not okay with me performing in a studio showcase which I would like to do eventually. Part of me just wants to go ahead and buy it regardless of the consequences. Present to myself for 6.5 years of school and putting my life on hold. Until then I will try to be good and watch my pennies. Thanks for the support 🙂

Same boat. Every time I have enough for purchase SOMETHING happens.
Funny in the long run it would be cheaper to just buy one. But it’s ‘priceless’ to get approval (first).

I do work out at home with the idea that the exercises complement pole on the days I can't go to open pole due to my schedule. I do circiut training, interval training, and sculting DVDs plus lots of ab and upper body work (my two weaknesses). I am not sure what to do streching wise without a pole. What would be a good goal besides splits?

The math never adds up for fun stuff. LOL. My boyfriend can't understand why I desire to spend $36 on a pair of short to pole in when I get a job. He basically said I pay $10 for my shorts and there is a lot more material. My response should have been that you definitely don't look as cute as I would.

I am debating looking at temp jobs so I am not competely broke while I study for boards and look for a job. Still trying not to be impulsive and buy a pole on my own 🙂

Update: I gave myself a pole for graduation! My family and boyfriend have given me money for birthday and christmas to pay for my exams. My mom and sister asked me about trying pole dancing after seeing my poler's butt.
