EG ayesha question
Posted by monica kay on October 5, 2012 at 1:41 pmsome people do it with torso secure agains pole.
some do it with torso away from pole.
and some do it … um… well all degrees of in between.
is there a different name for the one's against the pole? does it even matter? they all look cool and beautiful- and they are all challenging.

I would say torso against the pole is eg Ayesha, away from pole is extended eg Ayesha? I.e. you would caterpillar up first

EG aysha, technically, has torso angled away from pole–because the EG should rely on balance/counterbalance/core to hold in place. When the torso's right up against the pole, I usually see that as lacking some necessary engagement, whether it's the shoulders or elbow/bicep or core ……

i'm visualizing an 'eg aysha' with the torso close to the pole as a 'straightedge with V legs', not really an aysha…which to me means creating a triangle of hips, shoulder/elbow, and legs (which are parallel to the floor).

To me EG ayesha is torso away from the pole, but everyone does everything different, as long as you're safe and stable, that's all that really matters. Having your torso against the pole does make it hard to bring the legs down far enough to become parallel to the ground unless you're pretty flexy. A lot of the time, people that do it this way will end up leaving their legs in the air somewhere… which I guess ends up being somewhere between an ayesha and a straight edge (with legs separated)…
I'm pretty sure the extended ayesha is actually like an elbow grip iron x (?)

If your torso is against the pole than you're not really gripping with your elbow, do you? Doesn't it make it a Forearm Grip Aysha than, not Elbow Grip?

no i dont believe it is a forearm grip ayesha with torso against the pole Ronia. The are positioning in a forearm vs elbow grips are very different. You usually find that people can do one of these grips more comfortably..
I might be wrong but this is what I call my extended elbow grip ayesha (torso away from pole) https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/5069f0b2-066c-4c61-b3e4-61cc0ac37250
and this is what I would call a non-extended elbow grip (torso to the pole) https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_photo/505b960b-e508-45a6-a485-1ed00ac37250
As for a forearm grip..http://www.poledance-paris.com/12_repertoire/images/planche03_fig13.jpg
see that the arm runs along and down the pole not away from the pole facing the polers body
