Thank you all to your contributions! I’ll be sure to post a video so you all can let me know what to do to improve!

To dead lift it “holding” the pole you need very good flexibility. As if you can’t fold completely in 2, you will find the pole is in the way of where your back/butt needs to be to get the balance position.
I like to start with my hands a few inches from the base of the pole/wall, so that my back can use the space to tip over, then I can use the pole/wall behind me if I overbalance.
You do need to get your butt over the top of your shoulders before your feet can leave the floor. As someone else said, keep the straddle really wide.Think about going OUT first with your feet to get off the floor. Then it’s in the tilt of the hips to bring your legs up.
Practice the hip tilt with your back against the pole/wall. Start in a “top” position with your butt touching the wall. Bend your knees, then rotate your hips so your knees come as low as possible, you will feel more and more of your back touch the wall/pole. Then rotate the other way until it’s just your butt again. See how low you can get and go back up. (you’re bending your knees to make your levers smaller) -

This is my youtube video. In it I do the forearm/elbow stand from the floor. Very close to the beginning, using shoes and momentum as well as a slight undetectable push off from the toes. Hope these things will help you. -
I totally agree RobynPoleDancer, I totally agree… it requires a great deal of inner thigh flexibility and pelvis control to smoothly lift up in an elbow stand (really any deadlift ;-)). For whoever mentioned that they are able to lift a handstand, but not an elbow stand… you may be able to do it if you are slightly further away from the pole so your butt can get further back before you lift.
