Hi guys! There's a competition being held here among the Bobbi's Malaysia girls and my instructor asked me to enter. I (OH LORD FOR SOME REASON) agreed to.

The problem is that I've basically attended a total of 14 classes and the competition is in 3 weeks. I have zero experience at dancing although I am fairly flexible thanks to a martial arts background and I'm honestly not very confident. Obviously, this is also my first pole competition.

Is there any advice anyone can give me to not look stupid? Haha. I'm not really aiming to win, at this point! I'm just hoping I don't fall flat on my face or kick my nose in with a heel. Hehe. 😀

Congrats on entering! Don't worry if you did fall or if you weren't able to excecute a move the way you hope. Stress and adreniline change how you will perform the day of. Eat well while you train. Go over your routine daily, if only even on paper so you play with what moves you'll put where. You may find a common move that you do works better in another area etc. Put in floorwork. Challenge yourself to put in your newer moves BUT comfy moves that you do well. Make some moves unique that may be "common". Put your personality into your song choice and expression of dance. Be You. Have FUN! Don't be down on yourself or put too much pressure on yourself before, during or after! Have someone video it. Work on a costume. I find pieces I already have and "spruce" them up or have my hubby sew etc….Lots of good wishes for your performance and send me a link after you are done! I love seeing them:)

Thank you so much, ORGANIC ANGEL! I’m going to print out your advice and look at it everyday. I’m so nervous but trying to stay positive. 😀

'i don't know if this will help you at all.  Recently I did a comp, knew I was going to be doing something WAY out of my comfort zone and skill set and basically knew I was going to suck.  With that said, I realized it would be a better experience to suck it up and try something new and fail rather than do the same old, same old and perhaps fail but with a less likely percentage.

I stopped thinking about the competitive aspects ALL TOGETHER and focused on the show.  That relieved me alot!  I had something I wanted to do for *me.*  So do it for you, focus on you, do the routine YOU want to do not the one you think will win, pick the song YOU love, the costume that makes YOU feel great and give it your all.  If you do all of that – then the outcome won't matter.

I sucked my last comp, I totally went too far out of my box, I messed up almost everything, didn't place – I don't even care where I did place because even though it was a clumsy mess – I'm step closer to finding something new in me.

Does that make any sense?  lol

Yes, Charley, it does! Thanks. I’ll remember that. I don’t really mind so much doing something simple. I’m just hoping I don’t fall or anything! Haha. I’m not really aiming to win.

I’m sorry to hear about your last competition! I’m sure you’ll be completely kickass in your next one.

    Thanks for your advice!

Good for you putting yourself out there! I was talked into performing in a showcase with VERY little pole experience and it was the most empowering thing I’ve ever done. Even though I made mistakes, everyone was so supportive. Please post to let us all know how it went and best of luck 😀

Reading this post my heart is racing!! I’m entering the Irish pole princess Competition now in just under two months. I am so excited and nervous at the same time it’s my first time!! The most fun part for me is picking a theme that’s really out there… Superwoman… Batwoman.. Any things possible in the world of pole!!
