Ever lose a move?
Posted by Phoenix Hunter on November 18, 2013 at 11:27 pmI’ve been able to invert for a couple of months and all of a sudden I am not able to invert. WTF??!! Has this happened to you? I have been doing more intermediate moves, tricks, climbs etc. really pushing myself but didnt feel like I was overdoing inverts. I use them sparingly. I worked really hard to be able to invert hate to see it go away so quickly.

Yep. It is VERY frustrating but normal. I have had this happened several times during my pole journey. In fact, I am having this issue right now with the shoulder mount. I had it for weeks and now I haven’t been able to do it for weeks. Grr. Been working on getting it back…
-
Totally. Question: Why are you not able to invert? Does it hurt when you try? Or do you just all of a sudden feel like you don’t have the strength to invert?
-
Yes, I lost my janeiro now it scares me to even try, it’s like my body forgot what it felt like. I’m so bummed I juts adored that move.
-
Yep me too. Now I keep a pole calendar and list what I work on during practise. If I lose a move I can go back and see what I was doing to build up to it which helps me get it back. It also helps to keep me from getting discouraged to know I sort of have a “map” to get back to where I was and that if I just do the same things I did before I’ll do it again.

Totally normal! I’ve had that happen many times – sometimes they come back quickly, sometimes it takes a long time. Usually when it happens to me it’s a newer move – one that I haven’t really gotten super solid and reliable yet. Or if it’s working on some strength or flexibility aspect that is usually a weakness for me – if I leave it alone then I’m back at square one. Give it time, and keep working on your conditioning and it will come back! 🙂

Yep – happened to me with the chopper. Had it fairly solidly, no problem, then just couldn’t do it for weeks, then it came back. Weird, but yes, totally normal.

Seems to be common, I had the shoulder mount once and now I’m wondering if I dreamed it, lol – I know I didn’t but I only had it for about a week. My problem was likely inconsistent training though. I’ve been off the pole for about a year now (was preggo, had baby, haven’t had time to do anything) so I’m worried I may not even be able to even invert anymore! I believe consistent strength training can fix any setback though.

thanks everybody for the replies. glad to know i’m not alone in this. MissTricks, it really feels like I dont have the strength to invert, But I am somewhat sore through my whole body. I take rest days and dont pole two days in a row but I pretty much stay sore all over. I’m gonna take several days off. my boyfriend put his arm around me today and I realized that my ribs are sensitive to touch. I think I am sore and am not aware of how bad it is because I dont feel the pain when I am poling. time to rest then re-evaluate I guess

Robinb I haven’t been poling long, only 3 and a half months, but when I first started I couldn’t pole more than once or twice a week otherwise I was just wasting my time because my body was so sore all the time and u would get frustrated and not be able to do tricks. A few months on now I pole 5 or 6 days a week but often try to focus on different moves each day as otherwise my body gets too sore! For example, on Mondays if I focus on a lot of upper body strength moves like the ayesha and extended butterfly then on Tuesday ill put these aside and work on things like spins and cross ankle releases etc. Clearly it’s not that you can’t do it, your body is just tired!!!
This is just some tips and experience from what I’ve encountered from my own, just my opinions!

Yes I lose moves, especially the ones I don’t practice alot. Had the Flag to Shouldermount flip over but can’t do that now! And lost the Fonji for now.
-
Most things will be lost if we don’t practise them, except for knowing how to swim, ride a bike and those… I’ve lost many during the years, but if you once have had them, they will usually come back quick. So it’s not like totally learning it over again.
-
Lina your right! I’m still waiting for my Fonji to come back but I think it’s more fear than anything!

I’ve been able to do a true grip/twisted grip deadlift for almost 8 months now and I lose it all the time. 75% of the time I can’t do it and 25% of the time I can bust them out like it’s nothing. Lol 🙁

Yes, rest and evaluate. It happens to all of us… sadly! Mine is worse when I’m PMS! 🙁
