I did a Shoulder Mount Thursday night and wasn't properly positioned. I rolled over my clavicle when I got all the way up and moved into inverted crucific.  Last night I realized I have a weird lump. I don't feel it when my shoulder is neutral. However, when I "shrug" the shoulder, I can feel a palpable, movable lump that is very tender. The lump is kind of above and behind the clavicle (closer to neck than shoulder), which is why I don't feel it unless I shrug. Hope this makes sense. Has anyone else had this kind of lump? I've been icing it and thinking of it as just another side effect of improper form, but want to make sure it isn't something I should take more seriously and have it looked at. Feedback, please?

Icing it is a good call. Sounds like you put pressure on it that caused inflammation. Are you taking ibuprofen or another anti-inflammatory? If the pain continues without subsiding at all after a week of icing, resting, and anti-inflammatories, then the doctor is the next step. Next time you shoulder mount, keep your booty pushed out away from the pole while hooking and gripping with the ankles and knees, then slowly slide down into the inverted crucifix. That should help keep pressure off the collar bone.

Thanks, Danielle! I try not to take too many anti-inflammatories because they make me bruise more, but I may have to resort to it. However, I have a migraine today so the codeine I took for that is at least helping wth the pain, haha! I thought I had my booty far enough away. At least I started out that way. I must have gotten over zealous and gone straight up and rolled over it instead of tucking or straddling. I just learned move this recently, so I'm still working on getting the technique down. I really appreciate your feedback. I will continue to ice and rest it (no shoulder mounts at least!) and keep an eye on it. xo -Susan

Others have posted about this same issue so I would say it can happen. Rest and ice I would think is your best bet as mentioned before. Give that shoulder some time to calm down before sm again. Feel better soon!

I would also work on developing increasing your abdominal strength.  I had the same thing occur and discovered it was due to both improper form and my abs not being strong enough.  I am much more successful since I backed away from it for awhile and working on increasing my core strength even more.

Thanks Prncsopowr. I am a bit older, so I need all the ab conditioning I can possibly get!! I can control my SM pretty well, but it can always get better….Thanks!

I had something similar on my shin once thanks to bashing it nicely during a failed spin, and my friend who is an orthopaedic nurse told me not to worry (unless it stuck around for ages) as apparently when you bruise over a bone badly your body will induce serious inflammation to protect it, and it'll feel alot worse than a bruise on regular tissue as it can't move "down", it that makes sense. Like it'll feel worse than it is because it'll stick out more. So maybe it's something ike that? if it goes away soon and doesnt hurt too much I wouldnt worry about it 🙂

Thanks Everyone. It is still really tender, but the lump is getting smaller very slowly! I suspect I will need to take at least another week before I SM again. Maybe more. I can tell you that I will be much more conscientious once I am up! No fast rolling allowed!
