Hi ladies, I love this site, I’m so pleased I found this place!
Its the first time iv posted on here in need of a some help or advice, iv been poling for just over 2 months, I started last year but due to having to have my gallbladder removed I had to stop and then it took me a while to get back to it, I’m so glad I did, I love it so much, I currently do one private lesson a week (confidence issues with being in a group lol) and as much as I can at home, however I’m currently stuck 🙁 I can do the butterfly with realitive ease, however we started learning how into swing it round into a flatline Scorpio, I managed this four times when I first learnt i t, over and over, I was so proud of myself, now for some reason my chest will not come round and my lower hand comes back up onto the pole and I end up back in an invert! I’m so frustrated that i got this the first time and now nothing, I had a lesson last night and we worked on this and other things but I came from my lesson feeling like I could cry! Any tips on how to get this right would be amazing and I’d be truly grateful 🙂 thanks x

    Hey Carly!
First, welcome to Studio Veena! Always happy to see new polers around here 🙂
I’m really shocked to hear that you’re working on things like Butterfly and Flatline scorpio after 2 months of pole dancing!! Have you got a lot of dance or fitness background? It’s extremely rare to hear of someone doing those things so quickly into the journey!
While I don’t have any specific ideas on how to nail the transition, I can think of some general things to ask: Do you have your flatline scorpio down super well? Is your butterfly solid?
There are some moves and transitions that we get, and then lose, and I’ve seen it happen a few times around here where people will lose things only to give them a total rest… and then they come back! This is often because of overtraining. If you’re working the same muscles a lot with other moves, or trying the move you want too much, your muscles can become tired and weak, and you’ll find that it just doesn’t work anymore. There isn’t necessarily any soreness or noticeable fatigue involved, you just “lose the move.”

So, perhaps instead of banging your head against this particular wall, you could ease off it, find another one to work on, and then come back in a couple of weeks!

Hey hunny, thanks for the reply!
Yes I’m pretty shocked myself that I’m doing certain moves, I’m not a mega fit person but pretty strong, only dance experience is when there’s alcohol involved, lol, but i love to dance!!
I started pole last year and got on really well and built a lot of strength up and learnt spins etc, then had to have my gallbladder removed, so it put me out of the loop for a good few months, then never went back, as I had put weight on and lost all self confidence and began suffering with anxiety, blah blah blah, lol! Anyhoo I decided to lose some weight and go back to it but have one on one lessons and use my pole at home to work on the things I’d learnt in my lesson, my first lesson back, probs a year after I’d first started I hadnt lost much of the strength, all the spins were still there, just a lil slippy! My instructor believed that I was ready to begin learning the basic invert and it went from there, I have pretty much got every move she has given me and I put to practise at home, there’s a pic here of my butterfly, I think its OK? Lol, but then maybe a teeny thing I do wrong or I have a wobble and I go into panic mode and I think my brain tells me now every time I do certain moves its gonna happen and I’m gonna fall flat on my face, lose the fear maybe!! haha!
Maybe I should leave it for a week or so and not bother with that one like u said and maybe polish up my other moves!! Thanks for the reply very appreciative 🙂 xx
