Hi guys, hope its ok to vent a bit here, so I been sick with the flu for like 2 and a half weeks now so of course I couldnt do pole or exercise. And now that I want to get back into it I feel discouraged because I feel like I lost all my muscle strength I worked so hard to build and all my flexibility. It really sucks especially when I was doing so well and finally seeing good progress and now I got to start all over. Do you lose your muscles that fast? I feel like I do.

Anyways I’m definitely gonna start over with the 30 day take off but if you have any other tips to getting back into it or about starting over that will be great. Thanks!

This happens so much, you’re not alone and it’s ok to feel discouraged…at first! Just know that once you have the muscle memory of doing something it comes back a bit easier than when you first started learning.

The main reason behind creating the 30 day program was not just for new dancers but those who have taken time off. The best thing you can do is to get started again and not focus on where you were before but have fun with what you’re doing now. I have started over so many times I can’t even count! Remember pole can be beneficial and fun at any level so don’t focus too much on where you are, just enjoy!

I have started over twice due to health issues. I have done the 30 day getting started program a few times. I keep coming back to pole because I love the feeling I get when I’m polling. I am almost back to where I was before. Right now, I’m having a hard time with gemini, but I know I will get it again if I keep trying. Sometimes, life hands us a nasty surprise, be we must get back up again and move on.

I have stopped and started several times. I cannot climb anymore because of my knee but I’m going to try to learn the side climb. All I have to do to get back into it is put on some music. Keep at it !

I injured my back pretty recently and had to take two months off. All I could do which wouldn’t hurt my back was yoga and really light back conditioning exercises – I also had the flu during that time. When I started poling again I started with the invert program because it was excessive inverting that caused my injury and I didn’t want to start inverting right away and make my back worse. I was so sure I had lost all my strength, but actually I hadn’t. Now it’s been 2 months and while I may not progress as fast as I would like (I’m being really cautious) I definitely feel like I’m where I was before my injury if not stronger/better. So I really doubt you have lost all of your strength! Just start lightly and don’t feel discouraged if you’re feeling weaker than before in the beginning. See it as a opportunity to really practice the basics!

Thank you everyone, it’s so comforting to know I’m not the only one who has to start over from time to time. When I look at other polers who are so good at what they do and even professionals it makes you wonder, they must never take a break, but they more than likely do. Lol. Anyways I will definitely get back at it especially now I know I havent lost all my strength completely. I cant wait to start my pole journey again. Thanks ladies! 🙂
