I went shopping for white distilled vinegar today and all I could find was whitewine vinegar. Is that just as good or is it really important that it is white DISTILLED vinegar?

Ps. I couldn't even find anything called white vinegar. Just many kinds of whitewine vinegar. =/

I want to try this since everyone seems to love this.

Eva-do you have chemists where you live?  They may be able to make you a solution of 5% acetic acid, which is all that distilled vinegar is.  Wine vinegars typically are not as acidic and may have more sugar content…read, sticky.

@eva, I had the same problem. I found distilled white vinegar but in the label it said it was distilled malt vinegar, the colour of it was just colourless/white and I got all confused and didn't buy it…

Found this on wiki. I bolded the alternate names for white distilled vinegar:

    Distilled vinegar

Any type of vinegar may be distilled to produce a colourless solution of about 5% to 8% acetic acid in water. This is variously known as distilled spirit or "virgin vinegar", or white vinegar, and is used for medicinal, laboratory and cleaning purposes as well as in cooking, baking, meat preservation, and pickling. The most common starting material, because of its low cost, is malt vinegar.

Clarifying, malt is different than white. http://www.differencebetween.net/object/comparisons-of-food-items/difference-between-white-and-malt-vinegar/

People also use cider vinegar to clean metals but this should be diluted to 75/25 if anything. It's very very strong compared to white vinegar.

Has anyone tried vinegar wipes?  I found these (http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Equipment-Lavender-75-Count-Containers/dp/B001G7PU56/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1299352960&sr=8-4) on Amazon and wonder if they would work the same?  It would be a bit more convenient for taking to a pole class and since they have lavendar maybe they wouldn't smell as bad?

Also I wondered if it's safe to use the vinegar on a chrome x-pole?

From what Chem told us it's not a problem. I use it when i practice then clean my pole with alcool at the end… just in case. And about you wipes not sure the concentration of vinigar is enough in thati would think they dry after 2 minutes. Why not take a cloth and wet it with vinegar and put it in a ziplock bag, so you can use it many time.

The bonus would be that you can put in in you're dryer with you wet clothing and won't need to add antistatic like bounce https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Ya, taking a towel in a zip bag is a good idea.  Do you guys think my pole studio is going to have a problem with me bringing my own wipe down towel instead of using theirs?

    Update.

I notice the vinegar trick works extremely well on my Chrome xPole at home. However, on a powder coated stainless steel pole, not so well. I still get the sweaty hands like I always do. But the vinegar does repell the sweat a bit longer than Dry Hands would. I'm still experimenting. I'd like to know how it would be with a brass pole.

I agree with tiggertail. Wipes will dry out and vinegar on chrome is awesome. I brought my own stuff to a couple studios and they didn’t say anything to me, but my partners were thrilled! Lol!

I bought a small travel spray bottle from Harmon’s and poured the vinegar in there. So it’s easy to carry in my purse. Then i bring my own hand towel.

@MrsNaughtywed – Nice update! Was waiting on someone to post about powder coated. Guess it doesn’t clean the coat that well since it’s like a rubbery material? With brass, IMO it has the best grip with vinegar, in comparison to the rest of the metals. Flirty Girl uses brass and vinegar.

I tried it on my chrome X-Pole today and danced for about 40 min with only one wipe down during.  So it worked great and I have a serious issue with slipping usually.  Thanks so much for this little tip!  I just hope it works as good on my studio poles.

    Here's something to ponder.. 😛

My hands start to sweat just watching pole videos online! Party of me thinks it's a mind body connection. 😛

Holy Hell…FINALLY!!!  I've tried everything…windex, warm soapy water, mighty grip, itac2 level 3….etc.  Tried the white distilled vinegar yesterday and I can't even discribe how happy I am….IT WORKS!!  I live in FL and we have a humid climate which equals a sweaty mess and I didn't have to wipe my hands even ONCE for almost 2 hours of poling!!  I bought the Publix brand and I swear by it!!
