Hi friends. For those of you who follow me on IG, you know I dropped on my head slightly today. It wasn’t too bad (I caught most of my fall with my hand) but it could have been bad and it was a lesson telling me I should have crash mats at this point in my training. I’ve seen people with all different kinds. Does anyone have any recommendations for which ones to get or things I should be considering when selecting one? Brand, thickness, etc? Thanks!

I have got mat that is 4 inches thick. I bought it from ebay (I am in the UK) as it was the cheapest I could find. So far I am happy with it. Personally I thought that investing in thicker mat will be worth for the future even if I don’t need it at the moment x

I just ordered a Lupit standard 4.75 from PoleFitnessDancing.com. The ones that were reviewed here in older posts from Amazon are no longer available.
I wanted something that was thick and well made. I searched pole crash mat reviews and Lupit came out on top. https://www.polefitfreedom.com/the-best-pole-dancing-crash-mats-to-keep-you-safe/
The gym store brand prices on Amazon were about the same as Lupit and one online gym store was more than Lupit when I added shipping (They wanted over 100.00 to ship!).

Smart idea getting a crash mat. I use mine all the time and have had quite a few wipe-outs on it that could have been a lot worse than they were. I’ve fallen out of jade, gemini, superman, ayesha, and iguana (right on my noggin). I’m not saying a crash mat offers total protection, but it certainly lessens the likelihood of serious injury and can give you a nice confidence boost when trying new moves.

I got mine at Yoga Accessories.com (Here it is: https://www.yogaaccessories.com/Pole-Crash-Mats_p_125266.html). I went for the 5ft diameter and 5 inch thickness. There may be wider, thicker crash mats out there but this one works well for me. It’s not something I can use while freestyling or wearing heels, but for trick training it’s awesome. It’s a bit pricey but well worth the money. Best of luck! 🙂

I bought 6’×2’×2″ rectangle shaped mats at Play it Again Sports (I live in Canada, not sure if the store exists elsewear). They are not super thick but i got four of them and just double them up if I want more protection. The nice thing about them is that they fold up nicely for storage in my pole cupboard.

Until you find the right fit for you put some couch cushions down, they’re better than nothing!
