Thanks SO much everyone! You are all so right. I have the right to feel comfy in my own skin. I need to start now and grow the quality of not comparing. Something i hadn’t really realized before is that half the girls were wearing t shirts and sweats, even though the studio suggests shorts and a tank. Puts it in perspective that they were likely very self conscious as well.

Furthermore, I AM doing this for me and who cares what anyone else thinks? I’m going to go back to that class without the self consciousness and have an even better time. It’s all about me and getting better and better. You’ve all been a huge help. I’m overwhelmed by the encouragement. Thanks again!:

Oh Gosh, I have no idea why I thought she was that mature @_@ But it does explain why I thought she looked so hot for her age LOL

Hehe, maybe Karol actually will look as hot as now when ten more years have passed :)?

Being on the subject of, I have not seen much of her on youtube in the latest time…does anyone know if she still performs?

Karol has been all over the place and there have been videos up.  Her latest was a few weeks back at the Florida Pole Championship and I absolutely ADORE her routine from it.  This weekend she will be judging and performing in Detroit.  She just does not post so much under her Redke profile.

First, the age thing: 31 is NOT old. Period. I love my 30’s (I’ll be 34 tomorrow) and I look and feel better than I ever did my teens or 20’s. I’m not sure why the 20’s are exalted to this level that people see as the “prime time” but to each their own I guess. And on another note, Natasha Wang is 36, Alethea is 32 and Leigh Ann is 30 and I’m sure there’s a lot of other pro polers over 30 that I can’t think of. and the weight and wall-to-wall mirror thing: keep going to class, you will get used to it and you’ll start to view yourself differently, I promise. This is why women fall head over heels in love with pole, because we all start to fall in love with OURSELVES, flaws and all.

Thank you Brandi! Verticali, I took your advice and searched YouTube. I DID find a completely inspiring video of a woman who took video clips of her progress. The change is amazing! You watch her gradually change over time from just starting, to becoming all whimsical and confident. I literally watched with my mouth open as she got better and better. Just what I needed!

I didn't read through all the comments so I don't know if it was addressed, but when I started classes I was told NOT to wear shorts and tank tops because the first things we learned were spins and floor work. The clothing prevented our skin from gripping the pole and giving us pole burn and it made floor moves more comfortable. It was about two and a half months before they told us to start coming to class in shorts and tank tops. Maybe other studios do things differently, but maybe you would feel more comfortable wearing more clothes until you progress your skills which will give you immense confidence regardless of your body type. I couldn't imagine going to my first class in booty shorts and a tank top, but now that I know a few moves I don't care about my thick thighs and cellulite.  PS: I am almost 28 and about 40-45 pounds overweight, so I relate.

I don't think that spins should be done with clothing covering you, unless they are grounded spins. Even a basic fireman spin is made easier on the arms by gripping with the legs, and many larger girls DO have trouble holding their weight in their arms to begin with. As you work through a good progression/syllabus of spins, requirement to grip with legs decreases, and increases the work required by the arms and shoulders (which should be built up slowly).

The teacher of polefit where I attended class is 65 and she is awesome! I am 52 and just starting but I know what you mean. I felt like that the first day too but looking at youtube at all body types made me feel better!

@Chem:  Thank you! Good to see Karol's active. I had missed her in the ocean of pole performances obviously and just noticed she hadn't posted any polevids on the redke account. Her costume and the lighting gives her a nude look lol.

One funny coincidence is that just before I clicked on the link to her performance I had uploaded a vid to my own youtube account, using the same song, "wicked game", but another version of it 🙂
