Sooo, I was selected to be in my studio's next recital. In a month! I'm nervous! I started working on my routine last night, and it's going well. Changed my song, because the original one was a little boring. I was going to do "Hold Yuh" by Gyptian and now decided to do "Superwoman" by Alicia Keys.

Anyway, my next worry is my outfit for the performance. I'm planning on wearing my Mika "Mikaela" shorts. Now I need a shirt! I don't want it to be too revealing, I even thought about just wearing a black cut-up shirt, but I kinda want it to be a little more fun. So. Not too revealing, covering the belly. I keep finding tops that are just bras or bikini tops and I can't do that…

Do you ladies have any ideas?

    Thanks!

It kind of depends on the type of moves you are planning on executing as to whether or not your sides need to be exposed.

I have a cut up wife beater (tank top) that I wear over brightly colored bras or bikini tops or sports bras that is one of my go to tops.  There is also a girl who has videos on YT on how to cut up shirts that has some cool ideas.

Bootpants, how wonderful! I’m so excited for you! Take into consideration what type of performance you’re planning. Whatever you wear you want to be comfortable in both being able to move freely, and also secure that you won’t have any fashion disasters. When I first started performing in class and I was still a bit shy, I wore a button up vest with a neon hot pink bra underneath. I kept the vest unbuttoned enough to expose the color of the bra. Think about what you are trying to project in your performance too. Superwoman is a great song about the inner strength we women have. Think about wearing something that makes you feel strong and confident. It will definitely come out in your performance. Good luck and I hope you will post an update and let us know how it went. And don’t worry…remember that there’s a reason you were selected. You’re gonna be fabulous!!!

So exciting!!! You'll totally rock it!

I agree that you need to choose your top according to the moves and if you can do them with a shirt on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif. If you're going upside down also check that your boobies don't escape  or your shirt is hanging in front of your face… I need a bra and then add layers. On my last recital I was performing a spins choreography (no tricks), I wrapped myself into sheer fabric over a bra and shorts so it looked like a floaty dress.

Cut shirts are fun! I also like a contrasting (sports) bra. You could also wear a lace, mesh, burnout or fishnet tank over a nice bra.

Did you check dancewear stores, they have a lot of cute stuff (matte jersey is shiny though, not as matte as the mika shorts)

    or something like this?

http://www.lrosedesigns.com/products/longline.html  (this is custom order and will take 3-4 weeks, make sure to tell them if you have a performance date!)

Corsets are fun, but might restrict your movement and usually don't stick to the pole (but that is true for almost any full length top).

    Have fun at your performance!!!

Thank you SO much, ladies. I'm only doing spins and climbs so far, so my boobs should be safe! 🙂 I love some of the tops on dancewearsolutions.com. Thanks for that link, Tine007.

I'll keep you guys posted how it goes!

The one top I REALLY liked was not in stock. 🙁 But since I'm dancing to "Superwoman" I've decided to get a Superman shirt and cut it up a little bit. I hope it'll look nice! Thanks for your suggestions, ladies!
