Fixing your pole

So i took my pole to a party and when i got home the pole was stuck on bottom. I had to drive it home like that. When I was trying to get it on stuck the hole bent a bit and there was a sharp edge. I called x-pole and the lady was really nice she told me the techs usually take a towel and a hammer and gently hammer to push it back it. Has anyone else done this themselves?
