Does anyone know where I can find a good tutorial on how to go into the brass monkey from a flag without kicking (deadlift).  I've been trying for over 6 months to get this and finally just starting attempting it again (it was a move I shelved cause I just got frustrated). I managed to get it twice last night but it was really rough looking.

I've seen several videos of people doing it but nothing that really breaks it down or gives you things to work on first as baby steps to achieve this.

Looking for more tips on this one.

as far as i know there aren't really (unfortunately) baby steps… either you hvae the strength or you don't. you need to be comfortable with your flag and a brass monkey. i didn't start working on this until i had an aerial shouldermount with straight legs… i dont think thats a prerequisite but that's all i can think of to give you an idea of the core strength i had before i tried it and got it. even still i cannot do this without cramping my right pec unless i am SUPER warm first… so i don't do it often, since getting a cramp in your boob really sucks.

the arm that is higher on the pole– that is the same side as the leg that will hook on the pole. so, when you start, you are bent over with your arm in flag position. engage literally everything to pull your legs up while trying to get your head down and pull your self into the pole. you need to turn your body so that your hips are no longer facing the ground, but facing the pole. then you rotate your top leg forward and then around and back in the hip socket to catch it on the pole in a brass monkey.

    hope that helps… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I'm still working on this and can only get it about half the time but David gave me a really great tip and it helped.  When you lean down to grap the pole drop your head down as low as you can before grabbing ahold and flipping on up.  Assuming you are doing this from up on the pole.  Basically get that butt up above you as much as you can before starting into the move.  Good luck.

For me…its easiest on a lager diameter pole.

I have to drop the head (like everyone says)

then as I begin the lift pushing with the top arm the is placed as low as It will go.

I turn my body toward the pole so the collarbone of my top arm is almost against the pole

push hard through the top arm and hand.

Keep the knees tucked in until you become freakishly strong LOL I still have to tuck.
