Hello! I’d like to start out by saying that I love this site!! More to the point however, I just got a 45mm chrome sport x pole. I currently have it installed in my garage. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations on floor covers to use? I pole barefoot, so the grainy texture of the floor and the fact that it freezes my toes is a bit of a deterrent (not to mention that it makes the bottoms of my feet jet black… Yucky!!!).

I know that there are crash pads, but I’m not really at the point of needed one of those (despite poling for over 6 months, I’m still a helpless beginner). I mainly practice spins and building my strength for things to come. I’ve heard carpet can give some mean burns when doing elbow stands and such. So is there anything affordable that will be thin enough to allow me to dance but provide a little bit if cushion compared to bare concrete? Or am I just over my head and asking too much? Thanks in advance!!!!

I was thinking that too but am a little concerned about it moving around too much?

Any removable floor cover is going to slip around unless you secure it to the ground. I’m just throwing ideas around as I have not actually done this, but 3M command strips? Velcro (fuzzy part on the ground so if you need to remove the mat, you won’t have sharp bits on the ground?)?

I have got a martial arts jigsaw mat for my pole, its the same as we use in the studio and my instructor recommended them. I have a 40mm thick one, you just cut a line and hole in it and pop it round the pole. Heres a link, I know it’s UK but it will give you an idea what Im talking about.

I know carpet isn’t what you want, but I’ve seen people use a large rug under the pole.

I second what korinne is saying about those foamy mats. I tried them out and I found that while they are a good option if you don’t want to invest in a crash mat for practicing tricks, they seem impractical for dancing as they just move too much.

they are fine cos they have a hole cut in them, If you look through my pics you should be able to see mine in place in some of them 🙂

I will preface this by stating that I did not use this with my X, but with my LM pole. Mine was out in the garage and I used a piece of paneling on the ground and put my pole on top of it. I never once had an issue of the paneling moving and it was a cheap fix.

Later I ended up with the foam stuff under my pole because we re-arranged the garage and I hated that stuff. Still did not have issues with it moving but I had more problems with stubbed toes and twisted landings when I had it down than when I had solid flooring.

Very cool, love the lights!! So I went to a sporting goods store and got puzzle mats. I bought 3 packs for $15 each and it covers a really good amount of space. We’ll see if I like it or not. If not, I also bought a pack of discount sticky back linoleum tiles on clearance. For now the foam will work I think, it’s dense enough that it doesn’t compact much when I walk on it, but has enough shock absorption compared to the concrete that I have confidence I won’t hurt myself. Thanks everyone!
