So I’m ordering a LM pole and putting it in an unfinished basement. I’m not sure what type of flooring to put down… I don’t want to leave it concrete and was thinking about putting a 10×10 piece of carpet down with a non skid pad underneath. But I’m nervous it will still slide and the pole will come down.

Does anyone have any experience with unfinished dance spaces?

Had my LM on carpet and it did NOT slip.  Also, just put it on wood floor we made.  Check out my video, I just posted it today……you could put down woodtoo, or even paint part of the concrete black!  But be sure to get a mat!

When you had it on carpet, was the floor fully carpeted or just like a big rug?

It was fully carpeted. If ur concered about the rug or carpet slipping, buy one of those rubber non skid carpet things.

Lyme Lyte- LOVE the floor you made!!  I was considering putting something like this down, but am also concerned about my knees during floorwork.  I'm still undecided on if I want a hard surface or some sort of carpeting.

Can I ask a stupid question?  Why would I paint the concrete black?

Sorry, I'm so used to the studio where the floors are wood laminate, and I've never had a pole before so I'm very new at creating my own dance space!

I thought ur pole was on a basoc concrete floor, like in an unfinished basemenent. U can paint concrete…..and get the same effect as the painted wood.

Do you have any recommendations for black concrete paint?   I think painting my concrete is going to be the best option.

You may also want to check for a special type of paint that is kinda rubberized…..ive seen it used in very expensive homes in their garages…..also i would do a google search for tips on painting concrete.

I had my LM on an area rug in my old house(the floor was hardwood)…it never slid or moved.  I had one on concrete in the garage with an area rug as well…no prob there either!

I stained my concrete floors downstairs. It turned out VERY nice! LOVE LOVE it. You can buy concrete paint- or stain. The staining looks more natural and fills nice patterns into cracks, etc.. Then you seal it w an epoxy. They can help you at any home improvemenst store. It took me a couple days to do the whole thing but it is gorgeous. I get compliments on it all the time!

I think that staining/painting is what we're leaning towards, especially because it seems to be the lowest in cost.
