So I got a tattoo on my foot on Tuesday. I'm a righty, so I got it on my left. It's always the top of my right one that makes contact with the pole. Been following instructions to the letter. It's healing very nicely, but I live in the Northeast and at some point I'm going to have to go outside. In 20 degree weather. I plan on wrapping it so it doesn't stick to my sock. Skipped the gym and poling Wednesday and Thursday. I'm planning on taking an exercise class at the gym tomorrow. My tattoo artist gave me some "wrap pads" to cushion it against a rubbing sneaker, but I'm nervous about it fading and the ink not sticking. He said I would be fine after a day or two, so I was cautious and have waited 2.  There are so many different opinions online about wrapping it, etc. Anyone have any insight? Thanks! 🙂

I always try to give my tattoos as much breathing time as possible. After about 3 days it should ‘scab’ (maybe not thick ones, but the same idea), then just wrapping it with anything to keep it from rubbing works. The idea is to leave the scabs intact so it will peel on its own. If a scab is taken off too early it may bleed, which would lead to ink coming out. If you’ve waited several days, them wrapping it with guaze will be just fine. As far as poling goes, do not let it touch the pole and you’ll be fine. If you’re nervous that you haven’t the control to keep that from happening, then wait two weeks or so, until the peeling is finished. That’s my insight! 🙂

Are you kidding? I got a girl taking my pole boot camp right now that went out, got a tattoo, then came right on into pole a couple hours later. When I asked her how she expected to pole with that fresh on her skin she reply's, "Like this…" You get the picture. It's really going to depend on your pain threshold and whether or not you want to chance effing up the lines and coloring of your tattoo right off the bat because when you get a tattoo it takes at least 5 days for the ink to fully set into the deeper layers of skin tissues, obsorbing then shedding any access skin after it heels. A tattoo, in essence, is one big open sore so any type of penetration to it is going to do some level of damage if you don't properly let it set and rest. Just a few tid bits. Good luck!

Lol, Sarah – who got all tatted up?

I would recommend you keep it covered for at least 5-7 days. Once it heals you can use electrical tape to cover the area for another 2-3 weeks when you are poling. You just don't want to rip or tear the skin during the color setting and healing process.

Thanks ladies! I appreciate the insight. I don't plan on doing any poling until next week. However, I'm going to try my exercise class tomorrow and we'll see how it goes. She does mostly upper body and core exercise, but if it's painful, I'll just stop. The pads he gave me seem to cushion it well when I wear shoes, just haven't tried exercise yet. 🙂
