I bought some baby wipes to clean my feet after pole as more often than not I am disgusted at how my feet get soooo dirty at some studios.

You can always wear ballet slippers or some slip on jazz shoes 🙂

that's pretty gross. i vacuumm my studio every day…and use the swifer wet mop once a week. Non of my clients feet get dirty….and I bring my pug with me every day to work. Ps…He gets a bath 2 times a week too. He has the softest hair around and doesnt smell like freetoes corn chips.

There are also alcohol wipe sheets that are awesome to sanitize..they are about the size of wet nap…and you dont have to worry that it will interfer with your poling.

This is quite common at studios that teach other things besides pole or that allow people to walk through with their shoes on.  If you class is just after something like Zumba where everyone was wearing shoes and jumping up and down for 45 minutes then there really is nothing you can do.

It is sad that this is common, but it is not something you have to deal with. It is a lot of work to keep a fitness facility clean. But…people are sweating, losing skin, leaving lotion marks, ect ect….It is possible to keep it clean. I do it every day and I teach Pilates, Barre Fusion, and Pole at my place and it is clean. I wipe everything down after each and every client.. Including reformer footbars, change the loops for the next client, wipe the ballet barre and mats with a alcohol wipes or tea tree oil. Anything a client makes contact with gets cleaned. I make all my trainers do it too. I do not leave it up to the clients to this. I have a lot of elderly clients, and if they happened to come in and touch something that someone else touched and that person might of had a common cold….well that could be a very bad for a person with a compromised immune system.

If the place you are training at is not clean…what else are they being lazy about?

This was one of the big issues I had at the place where I was teaching.  During the winter people would walk through salt on the sidewalks and track it through the studio.  Even with taking a broom after each class you still had residue on the floors.  It is not a matter of the studio not taking care of things as the floors were scrubbed once a week and poles and yoga mats were wiped and disinfected after each and every class.  My class followed either Zumba or Booty Beat and with the exception of washing the floor after those classes there was not much that could be done.

I suspect I got some kind of skin infection at the studio, so I bought my own yoga mat and I clean my pole every time before I work on it.

I want to buy ballet slippers and a big bottle of rubbing alcohol as well…

I do live in So Cal…so we dont get the messy weather like other places. I'm so bee-jeezis anal that I would probably have a mud room and make them take there shoes off before they went in.

At the Pilates studio I take classes at we have to remove our slippers outside the door (its Hawaii so very few people show up in shoes), and wipeour feet with foot wipes they provide. To me, this only makes sense! When spending time on the floor, its always nice that its clean.
