I got some new shoes today so I just had to have a quick dance around and got my girl to record it
(excuse the singing, my lovely daughter didn’t realise she was humming along).
I only got my pole a few weeks ago and have been having huge issues with grip because I sweat like a beast haha…but this turned out ok- very few moves, no grip aid (I should have used some but forgot) with the pole on static.
I literally haven’t exercised AT ALL since July 2012 when I had my first big orthopedic surgery so I have gained a lot of weight and am not strong at all.
That being said I am really starting to see improvements in my grip and flexibility after only 3 or 4 stretching sessions.
My biggest hurdle is weakness in my left leg and being super tight on my right side after using crutches for a year and a cane for almost 2.
Plus I have scoliosis and very mild Elher’s Danlos Syndrome which makes me kinda flexi but also flat footed and prone to healing slowly.
In other words, don’t expect much :p I’m super self conscious about my lower belly as I have had 3 huge surgeries and on my pelvis and have some ongoing muscle weakness so please be kind (I’m nervous if you can’t already tell).

    Here’s the link to my youtube because I can’t embed the video (I have the video set to unlisted so only people with the link can see it);

That dance was great! You surely know how to move around the pole and be graceful!! Congrats! A few days ago I also tried dancing around the pole and watching the video was awful :s I look like a lost duck! -.-
Keep up the great work! I’m sure you’ll gain your strenght in no time 🙂

    Thanks so much Andrea.
I danced in clubs for years so I have some experience but it’s been at least 6 years since I did so with any regularity. I’m now 43 and am, of course, my own worst critic.
It’s hard seeing how unfit I look but it’s nice to find the moves coming back so soon even if my strength has a very long way to go.
It’s funny, I can apply body acceptance to pretty much everyone but myself :p
But I’m feeling motivated so that always helps and my body should return to close to pre-surgery the more I dance (I hope!) 🙂

Thanks 🙂 An old skirt I used to wear at work, the only thing that still fits- it was either that or just my knickers haha
Next time I will remember to put some Dry Hands on first too so I can actually grip the pole properly 😉
It’s funny because I went to run my hand up my leg and mentally went “oops! my kid is filming this for me and I’m not in the club any more!” so I kinda did this awkward thing at the start as I realised I had to keep the raunch out of my dancing… not easy when you’re used to going the other way lol

I’m a fan of “raunch” I believe every women has it In Her its just weather we go with it or not !! I like to think of it as sensual and erotic 🙂 and I get the kid censoring 😉 … She will grow up however seeing a very empowered mommy who owns her body fully 🙂 how awesome !!

I thought the dance was great, especially with everything that you have gone through recently. It was elegant and sexy and you looked like you were enjoying it. I am also 43, and I recently came back to pole. I understand how it feels to have your brain tell your body, “you used to do this” and now you know that you can’t…YET. It will come back, if you want it to. I was away from pole for a very long time and slowly it is all coming back. Keep it up and great job and good luck!! 🙂

Gena yes, exactly! I want to do drop splits and helicopters but can hardly climb the pole haha
It’s nice to see some stuff coming back so fast- I kinda got a bit despondent when I didn’t immediately have great grip and form.
I’m an instant graification type of gal, so the pole just stood there for a good week and I would simply try to hold myself up for a second throughout the day if I remembered.
But already it’s starting to improve so I’m all excited now 😉

@shoogstandley Yay for raunch 😉 It was my bread and butter for many years and it’s pretty much embedded in my when it comes to the pole. I can absolutely appreciate the artistic not so sexy stuff but I will always gravitate to the more sensual side of pole dancing because that’s what I know best.
But yeah, it was funny- I can *see* where my mind goes “whoops! keep it clean!” with my hand on my leg hahaha
