Do you have the lessons here?  I would strongly suggest them if you don't.  Veena knows her stuff and using the conditioning lessons will get you back in no time.  Above all else, be patient with yourself.  You just put your body through a year of changes.  You will be back faster than you think!

    Thank you chem!!

Hi cwalden43, congrats on the little one! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Yes, the lessons would be very helpful for your journey back. Conditioning is very important, just as you would do as a beginner. You are starting over and focusing on core conditioning will be important! If you have any questions feel free to send me an email. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

It does take time to feel like you again…. here's a video after I had mine, if you'd like to take a look. It's very frustrating because your mind remembers what to do, but the body can't….yet!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5UhIJnX5Rw&list=UUup79MtZnWP_SCAHeVlmzdQ&index=7&feature=plcp

@cwalden43, Congratulations on your baby! And for wanting to return to pole. That's a big step. I had a baby the last week of December, so I can help give you some pointers.

As soon as I felt ready to return to pole I made goals. I did NOT always meet them and then I set new ones the next week.

Are you nursing? I found that I needed to eat extra all week just knowing I was training. I tried to pop in a stretch DVD the days that I couldn't make it to pole or if I had an extra 5-20 min(some were interupted to nurse).

I started at 1-2 a week and some weeks did 3 pole sessions. I found that 3 sessions was too much for me b/c my baby needs me so much right now. 2 is best for me right now.

Anyhow, I had to learn how to climb and everything all over, even though I had poled til I was 30weeks pregnant!

Each week try to do some of the moves you did before. You may need a spotter. I needed my instructor for most moves even to go over the main points of basic moves. I also slipped in classes under my knowledgable level b/c of that. I listened to my body.

Good luck and have fun reincorporating things into your regimine again!

Realize that your body has been through enormous changes, so some things may work differently.  I've been able to get more functional upper body strength than I had before my little boy (he's 10 months old), but none of my hip/leg holds work right anymore.  My hips move differently than they did before, so I'm having to start over on those things.

Your body is still in a mode of being open to radical physical changes, and I have gained a lot more hip mobility <for good and bad!> than I had been able to achieve in years.

LISTEN to your body!!  I went to a class in the 2-3 month post partum time, and I found it was too much for my pelvic floor. I didn't want to mess around with a prolapse of any of my girly parts!!   I did other things for a while (silks and aerial yoga) so I could build strength while everything healed.  Since I was a beginner in both, I didn't feel (too) bad about not being able to do things.

I've been poling several times a week for the past couple of months, and my home pole is still slip-slidey a lot of the times.  I am not a fan of grip, but I've started using Mighty Grip.  It really does help.

It'll be back.  It's remarkable how fast the next few months will pass!  Getting some sleep will probably help everything, too.

I can't imagine your hormones are helping in getting back to poling. I know that I am significantly weaker on my period, so I can only imagine how bad it would be during the breast feeding phase.

Breast feeding hasn't seemed to negatively impact my poling, except that I'm more careful about trying certain moves.  Most of my body is covered w/ bruises at the moment, but I protect "the girls".  They don't belong to me right now!  =)  I have more upper body strength than I did before.  I think a lot of that is from my sweet boy.  He loves to be carried, and he weighs more than 20 lbs now!  I HAS helped me lose weight, though.  I weigh less now than prepregnancy.
